Nothing has made me appreciate my Rolexes more than buying and wearing other watches. And as much as I like these other watches and brands, the experience with them convinces me that if I had to chose just one, it would a Rolex. I had put the DateJust up for consignment and it just wasn't getting an offer that I liked. I pulled it from the dealer and when it got home yesterday, I put the Jubilee on it and slapped it on my wrist. I was stunned at how handsome it is...it instantly reminded me why I bought it in the first place. I still have 4 Omegas, and I now have 4 JLC (a bit of a buying spree the last two days)...and I do appreciate them all. But a 36mm Rolex, OP or DateJust, simply nails it...and has been nailing it for the last 60 years. Nothing unique or rare about this 1601...but it does what it does to perfection.
Well it is kinda unique or at least special since one doesn't see solid gold datejusts on sold gold jubilees every day
I hear you, OP. Once you find the one, it's hard to wear other watches. It feels like cheating. Beautiful Datejust by the way!
Sometimes it is only when you are without that you truly appreciate something. Lovely Datejust and as noted a special one!
Here they are. The Reverso is a Grande Taille, the Master Control is the 40mm version, the two vintage 35mm are bumper movements.
very nice! i said to myself i wouldnt add anything else this year after buying a jlc tribute to 1931 but i couldnt resist last month.
Agree with the short term gap aspect; any watch you are on the fence on (regarding putting it up for sale) first leave it in a safe box at the bank. It makes a difference having it be at the bank as opposed in a home safe. After the several days/weeks/months, bring it back home and see if it sparks any new feelings. Absolutely no feeling = proceed with selling. Enjoy it again = worth hanging on to.
I guess I'm fickle. I sold it a month after my op. It was beautiful and needed nothing, but it just couldn't crowd its way to the head of the line for wrist time. In the meantime, I had spent quite a bit on new watches, and it was time to balance the budget.
There are few other ways to say FU in style, than a solid gold datejust. Without being a fan of Rolex, I have to tip my hat to that one, well played.
Hello. I really love gold...and in a watch, it has such a wonderful weight to it. When I hold two models of the same watch, one steel and one gold, 99 times out of a 100 it is the gold one I end up wearing the most.
I hear you. I often stick mine in a safe for a month or two and when I pull it out again, it’s like seeing an old friend again. Love that feeling.
I was searching for a gold DJ for many years. I had a black dialed two tone DJ that I kept just for having the dial ready if I found the right 18k DJ. In the end I gave up. That does however not mean that I am without - I do have my "Plain Djane". Wrote about it here: https://omegaforums.net/threads/if-you-could-only-keep-one-watch.79152/page-5#post-1010950 It is just a really versatile watch!
Those are some very nice LeCoutres. They all have their small quirk. Square, twisted lugs, etc. I do agree that putting on a datejust, or date, the watch just hits the spot. I’m not good enough at expressing myself in text to explain this in writing. But for some reason it just feels perfect.
