I have just bought 2 canvas straps from Barton Straps which I really like. I am wondering is there a person or company out there that can better them. I have posted the same on the Rolex forum and they have suggested Drunkartstraps who are impossible to contact. Can anyone recommend a premium canvass strap maker I can buy from.

 

Seems like a lot of the "premium" canvas strap makers are just guys with IG accounts who never appear to actually be taking orders. I've heard pretty good things about Nodus watches canvas straps but I'm not sure if they could necessarily be considered to be premim.

@Jwit is the strap guru, he might be able to point you in the right direction.

 

I have a couple leather and NATO straps from Crown and Buckle that are decent.
I'm not sure I would call them the best, but that is also somewhat subjective probably.
They have a small collection of canvas straps but I do not have any so can't attest to their quality.

I’m in the same position as you. I searched quite a bit, ended up ordering a custom from redrock straps on Etsy. I should have in a week or two and I’ll let you know quality. His reviews are very strong, and his comm is great.

 

I’ve been looking too. I’m tempted to check out gandcostraps.com. The Olive looks great on the Speedy.

 

I have an Italian craftsman who makes great canvas covered leather straps (denim and olive drab /khaki) at incredibly reasonable prices.

In my limited experience of buying canvas straps, if I was going to buy similar in future, I'd look for ones with metal eyelets to cut down on the inevitable fraying that will affect the holes over time.

 

So far Barton straps are the best canvas only straps. Other canvas only straps are hard to find for reasonable amounts of money.
They actually fade and patina nicely.

 

I’m curious what you think of these. I’ve been considering one as well.

 

It's not canvas, but you'd probably really like the coated nylon "techno" straps by Manufacture Jean Rousseau. See the OEM straps offered on the Silver Snoopy, Apollo XI-45, and original Dark Side of the Moon Speedmasters; they also appear on some Seamaster diver models.

They look great, but have a leather lining.

 

From my experience with both $15 and $240 nylon / canvas straps: You want the leather lining. At the higher price point (which the OP does not seem to mind) you can get water-resistant leather

 

I just don’t trust leather to go swimming.
I don’t mind it on watches that will not be exposed to water.

 

I’ll let you know once it arrives. I went custom size, so it takes a bit longer.

 

@oddboy @sxl2004 the Nodus canvas are great. Comfortable, pliable, the leather lining is supple and well applied. But I agree that swimming or sweating too much could be an issue. Mine recovered from a decent soaking Perfectly fine but I don’t know how many times it can happen.
