@STANDY The straps all look great. Can you tell the story of how you almost lost it with the $22 strap? Was it the strap or the springbars that failed?
I think it was the heat and humidity that destroyed the strap. I have that same green strap and it shows no wear, but I'm not wearing it in the tropics.

@STANDY - Glad you dodged the bullet. I can't imagine losing this watch to a strap failure. Thanks for sharing,

Great review and story, and a terrific advertisement for the watch and its stone strap--tasticness. I think it's easy to go from watch novice to a hobbyist with dozens and dozens of 'em and all the costs and hassles that go with that, but the Speedmaster is one of a very short list of icons that than truly do it all, outside of deeper dives. Nice to see one being bought and worn that way.

@scapa Great way to put it. It's such a fun watch to wear everyday and put it on different straps and bracelets I don't see me getting tired of wearing this one.

OP I appreciate the detailed review and your growing love for this iconic watch. I am VERY new to the watch hobby and picked up a new 2020 model Moonwatch Prof 42mm through this forum. My VERY first "real" watch purchase ever. Should be arriving tmrw and so excited to get it on my wrist finally. Been keeping an eyes on the moonwatch for yrs. I can't believe the hike in prices over the last few yrs but still had to take the plunge before another hike in 2021. Thanks again for sharing your experience for new guys like me.

Congratulations on the purchase! May you wear it in the best of health. Please post some pictures when you get it. Enjoy it. Wear it. Don't be afraid to put a scratch on it. It's meant to be worn and you will love wearing it. Happy Holidays to you and everyone else on Omega Forums.

Thanks! I am truly blessed with an awesome wife who actually gifted this to me to celebrate a very special event in my life. I definitely will be putting some mileage on this watch since it will go into my EDC rotation. From what I've seen so far, these watches age very well. I plan to keep it for years to come to truly appreciate its character and vintage looks.

Great read thanks for sharing. I'm going through a similar situation and having walked away from some great deals, it's so true that you buy the seller not the watch. So if anyone is selling a Speedmaster pro, I'm all ears.

As for the hesalite, I couldn't agree more. I wear an old rolex datejust as my daily beater with the acrylic crystal, it gets scratched to bits. I use some fine wet and dry sandpaper, then some Brasso polish and it's good as new.

Nice write up. Mine took some hits. I'm a little clumsy and I should have invested in polywatch. Lol

OP, thank you for your review.......I'm currently in the same boat......my 25th anniversary was back in 2019 and the wife was about to buy me a Rolex......I stopped her (I know, I know) as was not a big fan of their designs and instead convinced her to get me the new Apple watch.......fast forward to today and appreciating high end mechanical watches (I'm an engineer)......never bought a watch over $1K (recently got a Chris Ward C65), but just registered in the forum yesterday and researching the Speedmaster (as I have an eye for it).....debating if I should get used or the new generation....only got one shot at this....so will be taking your advice on seeing them personally and looking at Kringkily...

Hey - I'm always amazed when someone is still reading this post after all this time. Many good sellers here and great info on the site. There is alot to absorb and learn, but you can find answers to whatever you need from the fine folks on this forum. If I was in your position I would go with the next gen hesalite. Just more accurate and the stepped dial. But it's your decision. Good luck with it and let us know how it turns out.

Nice read. One thing that still gets me is spending this much on this tiny mechanical item. It took some time to get over and I think the fact that at least you can get some of the value back if you are in need of cash helps.

Cringe/Corny/Cliche Warning.

If it brings you joy...then it is priceless...No monetary value can substitute for that.

I think thats what I keep in my mind. Money is just bits/paper. You can't enjoy money per se. And the alternatives to get that enjoyment have their own issues.
