I saw this linked to in another old thread but it didn’t get much attention, while its not exactly everyone’s cup of tea its an interesting and unique enough watch that its worth posting the photos just so people can see that Omega actually did make this thing. No doubt it’s more intended to be a ladies cocktail watch than a gentleman’s piece and frankly it hits the mark pretty well as my girlfriend’s eyes lit up when she saw it, full perpetual calendar automatic movement in 18k solid gold with factory set diamonds and rubies made in the 1980s.

The movement is an ETA base with a piggyback perpetual calendar module, which makes it a bit more simple than you would probably expect and more durable but its still something you would want to be very careful with as I have a feeling even Bienne would struggle a bit to find spares for this. I also have no idea what the reference might be and can’t find any other examples online at all.

ETA base - can I ask where you got that information from?

When I look at this:

I see a lot of this (rotor removed to see the bridges better):

Not exactly the same as the Cal. 1010, but close enough to make me wonder if this is actually a 1010 or 1020 that has been modified. If you look at the general layout, location of the jewels, where the rotor is located with respect to the rest of the bridges, there are too many similarities to ignore.

Cheers, Al

When I lived in Saudi Arabia between 1986-89 I saw a lot of these sorts of jewelled watches, the local clientele liked gem set pieces.

I made a typo I should have said SSIH rather than ETA, the movement in these is Calibre 716 (the skeletonized version may have another reference) and it was an in-group job based on the 712 ultra-thin movement handled by Edward Piguet/Rayville SA-Montres Blancpain with further modification from what I’ve read, so you’ll probably see even more 712 similarity than 1010/1020

Seeing this watch reinforces my thought of omega making the widest variety of watches😲
I can’t think of another brand having made as many styles of watches as omega

You look through A Journey Through Time and it immediately leaps out at you just what an incredibly broad church Omega actually is, even on this site we have these sort of sub-niches of collectors with amazing in depth collections of lines most people know nothing about.

There’s a group of about half a dozen guys that have almost every model of Omega Titane including prototypes and diamond encrusted jewelry pieces, most people don’t even know the Titane line exists but these guys have them all (https://omegaforums.net/threads/the-collection.19439/ as an example) , then there are so many Dynamic variants, so many Olympic timepieces, so many tuning fork movements, 2.4Mhz models, it just goes on and on.

Are these good movements? They always look so ugly to me. Do you rate them? Or not so much?

They are not the most desired, but aside from some issues on the dial side that can happen,. they are very good and accurate movements.
