Honestly, that squirrel avatar was much more threatening (in your face) than De Niro’s Taxi Driver - and that’s saying something.

Agreed, but the Taxi Driver squirrel is PERFECTLY positioned (angle of the head and body, paw resting on the chest) and IMMEDIATELY brings to mind that scene in the movie where Travis is talking to himself in the mirror, acting like he's getting confronted, and testing his newly made weapon system.

How many times do we need to have the discussion about what those words mean, on a forum with international members working in different currencies?

Well the net buying price is as important to me as the net selling price is to you. I guess we have ourselves an impasse.

Let’s also bear in mind that given cost of living differences, what looks expensive in one country/currency, say USD might be reasonable in another, say U.K.£.

It’s one of the reasons I look enviously at US prices and try to grab as much loot as I can when I have a chance to go over there on work...

Since I’m not selling you a watch, no we don’t.

Its becoming increasingly boring to see the same people rehash the same bullshit snarky topics.

You don’t like the way someone writes a FS or WTB?

You don’t like their pricing or terms?

You’re also not buying from or selling to them?

Why do you care?

Why does every little thing that pisses someone off about someone else’s marketplace post need to become a snarky thread?

It’s an incredible mix of boring, tiring, and pointless.

Because in today's world there is always something for someone to be offended by! It's fυcking getting ridiculous and out of control.

Thanks Social Media!

I think for perhaps, 7-8 out of 10 sales that get sold , prices of the watches are always within decent pricing (demand supply of the watch market)

Not picking out any particular sales post in the sales forums, but I notice certain models don't do as well as the more popular subs/chronos....

So while the seller justifies his bump once a day, I won't say it's ALWAYS the price but it could well be the model.

Just my 2 cents 😀

(also flip flop shots are always a good thing 😜)

It's ALWAYS the price. Even if it is a less desirable model, somebody will buy it if it is priced accordingly. If not, it will sit there until the seller finally gets the message. The market may be narrower for a less desirable model, I get that side of it, but if the market is $2000 for said watch and somebody is asking $4000, it's going to sit for a long time. The only thing I see that is hard to put a finger on, are the obscure vintage brands that a lot of people never have heard of that come up for sale and just because it's a beautiful looking watch, sellers probably take a stab in the dark with a price because there is probably not much info to go by. Even still, if it seems like a reasonable price someone will buy it. If it doesn't seem like a reasonable price it will sit and then the price drop game begins until it finally sells.

Another example is women's watches (less desirable). You see used diamond studded Constellations going for $2500 - $4000 asking price all day long on Ebay. They never sell. They ones in the $1000 -1700 range sell.

Sometimes is the "Attractive lume!" that appears to be really, really moldy... But in the end that means the pricing is not low enough to take that into account. But somehow some sellers think moldy = same as 'good'

Again, nothing against people love the wabi sabi of things; but sometimes, some "common sense" needs to be taken into consideration. A defective dial that has been destroyed by water moisture != attractive (at least for me)....

But then again, its so relative isn't it?

Anyone that’s selling idealy would like the watch to go instantly at full asking. However, there are differences in terms of how quickly the seller NEEDS to have the watch sold (perhaps they require funds for another purchase, a house, a wedding, divorce, tax bill, etc.) - other sellers may not need the money at all and therefore there’s little rush.

If you’re not in a hurry to sell, you’re likely more willing to list at a higher price and see what type of interest comes along...

Not all sellers have the same motivation as others (or you). That said, I find that watches that languish for months can get the stink on them and become harder to sell, so listing optimistically has potential drawbacks.

Absolutely. Some of my best deals as a buyer have been when an eBay seller started an auction too high and nobody bid. Then listed the watch the next week starting slightly lower. Week after week they start the auction lower and lower, and still nobody bids because the watch is tainted. Inexperienced collectors think something must be wrong with the watch. At some point I just buy the watch because it gets to the point where I'm concerned that a dealer will grab it and list it at 2x the price on their website. The psychology can be so strong that the price can easily be discounted by 1/4 or 1/3 from this kind of "stink".

I pay more than the market price most of the time 😁 , maybe because I am dumb ... maybe because sometimes there is no market price , maybe because sometimes the conditions deserves a premium , maybe because sometimes I want Watch wich is never in the market and when one pop .. you pay or you pass ... for ever ( or for a very long time) ... but if none of this reason happen , of course I would go for the market price ... and if the seller is really optimistic , as I used to be in the past ( yeah everybody is not as dumb as I am ) ... then he will have to align his price one day or another ... so be patient and don’t forget that is just a passion ... not the only goal of our life 😉

@ulackfocus :

I liked your old avatar much better. Somehow, that squirrel captured your OF persona. Maybe we need to take a poll and force the squirrel back on you. After that, we can address the inflated pricing in some of the ads. 😉

Yay! The squirrel is back!

I am now afraid again, very afraid. That squirrel knows I’ve f*cked up and is coming to get me.

Not the only goal of our life !? How could you say that !

Plus your watches always are great and sell instantly, no need to justify yourself 👍

I too despair at watches priced at double their realistic value in Private Watch Sales. Using that sub forum as a static shop window is plain selfish as it clogs it up with endless bumps and is really just trying to hook an ignorant noob. I do understand why comments on price aren’t allowed on here but I do wonder whether something like 5 bump/drop limit maybe the be answer to get thing moved and free up P1 otherwise it becomes moribund and full of stale White Elephants. Or a month time limit to bump. It would encourage more realistic pricing or at least speed up the inevitable drops. We can all be guilty of optimism or ignorance when it comes to selling but bumping for months is the market telling you you got the price wrong. If you want to ask a dealer price, put your watch in the dealer section.

In addition, if you sell professionally (you know, you only sell out of area to avoid VAT/sales tax) then get the hell out of Private Sales.

Don’t get me started in those who can’t understand why the seller actually wants to receive the amount he/she has agreed (regardless of if the price has been reduced). Clearly some just don’t get that, but I think we already established there may be deeply ingrained cultural differences at play here.

IMO, members should be above commenting publicly on prices. As long as the seller only posts/bumps once a day I can't see the issue - it is much worse on other fora so I won't complain.
