Yes, vintage Shell Cordovan are high quality

Mine in Chocolate by GEMEX

Grade: F
Shell Cordovan is a special leather from under the rear hide of a horse. It sounds fancy, but it's aesthetically boring, being completely smooth and unremarkable. Straps made from it tend to be too thick, making it especially ill-suited for small watches, like your Alpina. Worse, that strap is not even tapered.

Thank you! Don't feel bad, we learn through our mistakes. The valuable lesson you've shared here is an asset to the community and will serve to prevent others from making the same error.
You have obviously shown yourself to be a Jedi of watches and fashion. Me, I’m just a dude who likes watches and believe it or not I picked up that stitch pairing here when I saw others showing their wares. I think it might look ok on some other watches I have, well I’ll give it a try anyway. I just stopped by the local boutique to get cat food and noticed some lovely pairings. I had to buy a bunch of fancy feast so the jewelers would even acknowledge me of course.

Nice, that's real classy.

I find most of the crusty old fucker rules we are playing by here to be really boring. I object to the whole idea of strap shaming, but I will admit that while looking for pics of my watches to show counterpoint I realized I actually adhere to them for the most part (so much for my anti-authoritarian subconscious).
I do want to show an exception on red straps. This watch peeking out from under a Blue Oxford’s cuff is a little burst of color that’s a treat and picks up the red second hand. It’s a deeper red and Horween leather so smells like a baseball glove- yummy.

D- so wrong in so many ways and you shout “objection” at the top of your lungs as you bang the table but can only produce one example that goes against the “grain”. You are in denial.

Congratulations, Sir, on having having good taste. I hope the realization that you have it serves to heighten your enjoyment of it.

I think obsolete and asinine would also be appropriate descriptors.

but I will admit that while looking for pics of my watches to show counterpoint I realized I actually adhere to them for the most part.

I had the same disappointing realization – although I sidestep most of the "rules" by keeping my watches on their bracelets.

I’m the same with bracelet- if it came with a bracelet or if I have a period correct bracelet that would work if it didn’t, that’s what goes on it.

Gold watch on an oxblood Horween Shell Cordovan strap - about as adventurous as it gets for me.

I do not like the flat ends on the NTTD. It should have proper end links.

I believe this is the only sensible thing you've said so far in this entire thread.

Looking at Swatches of the past that is absolutely subtle. And you can really understand why the brand is called swatch. They really look like a cloth swatch you pick from for upholstery.

I can’t really take credit for the beautiful match between camo ballistic nylon and a late fifties compressor cased Lorenz (it came like this from the previous owner), but who am I to break up a perfect unison.
