How about this one Brad? My 1968 KonTiki 20 on a vintage sterling bracelet with turquoise, coral, and bear claw embellishments.

Are you an Indian Chief? If so, Grade: A+. Otherwise, Grade: F

Love the 3861 bracelet but I got the urge to put a strap on the Speedy. One of my new ones. Comfy single pass with summer vibes. What say ye oh pretentious strap master?

You got that from cheapestnatostraps.com, didn't you? A $6 strap on your $4,000 watch? Thought maybe a bit of blue would brighten things up a bit? Make you fall back in love with your plain old Speedy?
Grade: F

Well my pronoun is Big Chief, so... A+

Seriously though, my tribe no longer has chiefs. Under the auspices of the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934 the US Government directed tribes to write constituions based on a model constitution written by the department of the interior, and to create business committees to replace traditional forms of governance. So today most tribes have a chairman rather than a chief. Tribes that do have a "chief" simply use that term in place of chairman.

I picked up two guaranteed A+ straps today.

The Irish flag (I had it hand made )

The boring but super comfortable rubber.

I really need these A's to bring my grade point average up.

I appreciate you celebrating your Irish heritage.
If you wear it on St. Patrick's Day, Grade: A-
Otherwise, Grade: F-
The minus is because a deployant buckle is never as good as a plain old pin buckle.

Concerning the rubber,
Grade: F-
Rubber straps are for divers, not racing chronographs. Put that on a Seamaster, or even a Seamaster chronograph and you're at A-.
Again, the minus is because of the deployant buckle.

These grades are starting to resemble my final year school exam results 😀

Ok strap experts, I’m trying to redeem myself (https://omegaforums.net/threads/a-p...-choosing-a-strap.154166/page-14#post-2181289), and want to know which (if either) would be acceptable on my vintage Seamaster (first picture). I’m looking for something flat and brown. I believe the rules state I should go for dark brown, but something about the lighter attracts me.

What do you think?

(The second strap has a gold buckle which I would obviously change.)

Vintage Seamasters are an odd lot, being somewhere between a sports watch and a dress watch. They were mainly meant for sailing and other activities near the water. Normally leather and water don't mix, but in this case it's the right choice. I think the light brown would look nice. Much better than that monstrosity in the first photo with the bulbous padding and the sloppy stitching

*Sigh*, collecting is a journey of discovery. We make mistakes, learn and improve. I've done it too, buying a boring a watch from an otherwise good brand, deluding ourselves into thinking we'll like it, all the while knowing inside we won't. These can be expensive lessons, but nothing good ever comes cheap. Sadly, throwing good money after bad on a bold and colorful strap to try and make a boring watch interesting is just compounding your failure. Sell and cut your loses and repurpose that strap as a choker for the American Girl doll you keep in the pit you dug in your basement.

OK, let's see how I have managed...
Other watches stick to the bracelet, although Speedmaster sometimes goes with a racing strap.
Racing straps are from Bulang&Sons, Cream Saffiano is Molequin, and brown Japanese is Kurono.

Ok. Does it achieve a pass grade, or back in the box?

You have made me work way too hard to get that coveted criticism.

Calf's leather is for chronos. Thank you for following the rules. That Bulang & Sons rally strap is the best one on the market, though I think it looks better on a Speedy Pro. In fact I have the exact strap on my Speedy Pro. You really nailed it on the Brichot, too. I knocked you down to B+ for that horrible raw hide thing on your Baylor. Even if that wasn't a hideous strap, wouldn't you put a strap with Japanese writing on a Japanese watch?

Ok ok, you got the style right but you've missed a key element here. People choose that color for a vintage diver because it matches the aged tritium lume, but your lume is white. I guess you could wait 20 years before you wear it. By then the lume and strap will match, but better would be just to put a black Tropic on it and wear it now.

Yes, point taken. Requesting a re-grade with updated photo. Now this has got to be better, right? Either way, black tropic strap is going on today.

So, after a brief holiday with my weirder strap and bracelet selections, here is a rather more conservative one.

1948 Hamilton Turner on a vintage pigskin strap.
