I don't agree with Auto being an advantage, the only plus is that the 550 series auto's are actually good auto's, they are silent and they work really well, I forgot what auto paranoia was - but I'm a huge believer that auto is just a gimmick, we all care an extreme amount about our watches, why lose a very important feedback, the barrel stop, just to avoid 5 seconds of winding every day? makes 0 sense to me, auto only makes sense on diver watches I believe

For example, one could only collect handwind/steel G-Case's, and there's still 20~+ awesome variations

Let me share another racing dial that was sold here: https://omegaforums.net/threads/nos-omega-racing-geneve-st-135-041.40730/

Really enjoyed reading through this thread. I always referred to these as “oh-four-ones”. But maybe that’s a little too on the nose 😀 I prefer the non-date manual wind in stainless, but really they’re all just great. Here’s mine:

Here's my pretty basic example with gold hardware. (Psst... If anyone reading this has a no-date black or purple dial variant available, send me a pm)

@kaplan "Auto is a gimmick" is an absolutely hilarious take 😁 Man is hardcore!

It seems @kaplan keeps interesting company when it comes to this manual/automatic debate. This, from Desmond Guilfoyle's Constellation Gene Pool PDF:

Enjoying both, I sit firmly on the fence on this one! But I think my G-Case search will start with no-date, manual wind, though that will depend on what's around.

Like the case. Hate the names collectors invent. 😀

G-Case understandable, but how can you hate Monolith 😁

I don’t often wear these, I’ve been planning to just put them on the sales forum but keep hesitating. This thread isn’t helping lol

I'm resurrecting my own old thread from January with an update. I wanted to share the G-Case Genève that took me many months to find. It's been in my possession for a while now and I just remembered this thread. So, for completeness...

I wanted something with an unpolished case and a somewhat striking or less usual dial, also at a fair, non-astronomical price. I preferred the no-date 135.041 with its manual wind cal 601 as I don't have another one and wanted to see how easy it was to service. (Easy.) I was also ok If it were to show a little character given what I was willing to pay.

So this is what I went for. Elsewhere I've called it a 'ghost dial'. It's matt grey and has white painted hands. These rang true but worried me because other sightings of similar pairings are almost non-existent (but are out there). I'm sure everything is original to the watch. The case brushing is sharp. It goes with any strap. A pretty relaxed package it is too. I'd say it wears a little larger than a C-Case Constellation because of the relative dial size, but it's understated. I've been enjoying it.

My G-Case. Thanks for all the inspiration at the start of the year. I'm not sure we've firmly established the term 'G-Case' yet, but I can put this thread to bed now. Or, at least until the next one...

Just 20 minutes ago I was mourning an irregular color combination that I thought was not original and misrestored early in my journey, so with more experience I’d also easily believe this is original as a lot of experimentation went on with these models

Beautiful watch!

Missed this thread so just catching up.
As to name/style, the 041s are tonneau shaped, that is, cask or barrel shaped design.
I can't see the relationship to a "G Case" appellation though.

I'll see if I can find mine later

They definitely feel bigger than the average 34mm Omega from the time with slim lugs. Cool entry level pieces and as mentioned, available with funky details. A former example of mine says hi:

What a beauty

Does anyone know what end links would work for a 135.041?

I was looking at a bracelet with 526 end links

I know the 526 will work with the 166.041 but not sure on the manual wind. The cases look identical to my eye but is the 166.041 thicker or something to house the automatic movement?

Here are my two G-cases. The white sunburst 3-6-9-12 dial with gold hardware is manual ref 135.041 cal 601, and the black/grey(?) dial is ref 166.041 automatic with cal 565 (caveat emptor, it's yet to be serviced and I haven't opened the caseback, but pretty sure<tm>).

I'm a dress watch guy so these fit right in. And at least for the 135.041, I can attest that for me it is a very nice, light, casual all-arounder.

Notice on the last photo how much thinner the manual 135.041 is (~ 8.5mm vs 11mm); but also automatic 166.041 doesn't have original crystal so that might add to the height.

Coincidentally the one with the gold hardware is the watch that dragged me into the rabbit hole that are Omegas. And that only last summer, which feels like ages ago.
