I've found that a diet of gruel and single malt works wonders for preventing broken tooth issues.

Oh, and lots of Metamucil.

Got the temporary crown this morning. Now I have to wait a few weeks (a fortnight?) for the new crown to be made. The old one lasted 23 years. Sometimes I think they do the work simply because they can.

Some of the feeling is starting to return. Not fun.

I feel you bro.

My follow-up is:

I got lucky and my dentist had the technology to make a crown while I waited (a small block of zirconia put into a cad type machine).

That was great, what wasn't and isn't -- I have other crowns in my mouth but this latest one, well not sure, I am getting some discomfort ranging from annoying to occasionally full-on Ouch... not sure if it's too big or not shaped correctly or what but it's very sensitive sometimes and other times it's making my teeth near it very sore ~ like maybe it's not shaped correctly and is pushing my other adjacent teeth forward?
Going to wait a few more days and if things don't stabilize I am going back.

If you are getting pain elsewhere then it needs to be resolved. I had this issue when I had mine done which threw off my bite- lots of ache and discomfort. My dentist worked for a while at micro-adjusting my bite with taking a little off then test with the little bite-down paper, rinse and repeat. Finally nailed it,

I asked the dentist about made in place crowns.

He said he did not like them as they tended to break easy.

My gums are starting to feel sore from the impression.

12 year guarantee on mine - maybe your dentist has bad credit (for the bank loan for the machine)?

It’s amazing how close the tolerances are in many systems in our body. Your teeth are off by a matter of microns but it’s enough to cause issues and send the sensory systems into alert. From the dentists view of the dashboard, it may look correct but there is little measurable data for them to go by other than your feedback.
I have friends and family that hate going to doctors/dentists because they say they either “didn’t listen” or they didn’t “fix” the problem. Then I ask if they told the practitioner in detail what they were experiencing and where…usually they hadn’t or thought it was their fault.
Medical professionals can only be as good as the information we give them.

Nice to see that my RN wife's PayPal to you went through.

But yes, it's true.

Lol- just keep giving him as accurate feedback as possibly, he doesn’t want you to suffer, in fact the faster he is able to make you comfortable, the sooner he doesn’t have to look at you for a while.

I’m sure your tuna salad with onions and that package of Oreos you ate right before going in brought him no joy.

And no, an Altoid does not cover that shit up.

Vegan (yes I know, one of those -but- I don't soapbox it)... onions, many - beans, often.

I have asked my dentist what the most offensive smells are and he has said it’s onions hands down. I make it a point to have the most fragrance free food possible the entire day before I see him.

When I am angry at my dentist I arrive after a cold two day old black coffee and onion sandie.

Well he took over the practice from the old neighbor who is a good friend of my mom. My old dentist just closed the doors when the pandemic happens. I have no insurance so we were paying by check. This dentist might have a bit of a cash flow issue, as he never bothered to deposit the checks.

I liked the dentist I had at Apple. A one person operation. I think he was Steve Jobs dentist too. No nonsense. Was sad when he retired. (and did not see a dentist for like 5 years.) When the new dentist called to see why I had not been in, they said something like "Don't you want to come in and see the new deco?" My reply was I did not want to come in and pay for the new deco.

When I did need the wisdom extractions and the root canal (In the late 1990s when Titanic came out) He used specialists.

As I said I did not see a dentist for about 5 years after that. Big mistake. When I moved back to the family home we decided cleanings were a form of self insurance. I actually liked that guy. His office was across the street from the jail and court house. A family practitioner he had all the kids stuff. Was funny to see the lawyers holding the post care bag with the Happy tooth logo.

My uncle was a teaching dentist. (Hindsight says I probably should have gone into dentistry.) He said the best way to find a good dentist was to find out what his hobbies were and look for one that did artistic things. Used to be that what ever dentist I went to knew 'Uncle Fred' and had taken classes from him. Was fun as a kid to play with the scrap gold and centrifuges. The garage was full of old dental chairs and drills. Unfortunately he was too expensive to do work for the family as he mostly worked with gold.

My uncle was also a western Buddhist (second generation,) quite unique, His brothers never married. Most of our conversations were about pretty esoteric things. I miss him a lot. The cousins like myself were into a lot of tech things. Mom's Sister was top of her class as Stanford, So the bar was set pretty high.

Don’t forget to suck down a couple Marlboro lights too just to punctuate the funk.

At first I thought this was a joke, but thinking about it, this actually sounds good!

I once thought peanut butter and cheddar sandwich sounded crazy...then I had one. Even better with thin sliced apple too!

Ok, now I'm hungry

Well, as with most things we have a thread for that...

https://omegaforums.net/threads/i-like-bacon-as-much-or-more-than-most.120641/

Sort of I guess, because it started out as a bacon thread, then it turned into a “let’s try each other’s strange sandwiches” thread...

The pub onions were in the chilly bin. As was some moldy gouda cheese. There were some kippers in the pantry as well.

And out the window I could watch the pre storm build up over the Sonoma and Napa Valleys. Cultural appropriation indeed.

Damn, girl, you’re deep! Gotz no kippers, but…

I do remember at the end of a multi-country road trip we had run out of Gouda cheese…saw the town of Gouda on the map, made the right turn out of our way to get more…just because.

Some of the most memorable meals I’ve ever had were in a car, looking over foreign places, pieces of amazing fresh cooked bread ripped off the loaf, hunks of local cheese, olives…whatever…handed to me to stuff in my mouth as we rolled along, soaking in the beautiful scenery.
