Done.
Upside: crack was bad but the tooth was viable for a root canal and therefore thusly Saved. Yes!

Downside: got a root canal.

Double Downside: my actual dentist, not the endodontist who just did the root canal, can't see me for seven days... so that's a long slog of babying the exposed tooth stump before we begin the crown procedure.

Back home, anesthetic wearing off, the dull ache is coming on but I've got my little air fern zombie - "Sir Funkmaster" - warding off further pain from Dr. Paine.

Oh, and watch related addendum -

Endodontist totally geeked out on my Speedmaster Professional during the procedure... wants one, knows colleagues that have one and love them, etc.
Best though, the guy keeps asking me questions about mine but I'm numbed up, mouth dam in my piehole, two hands in my mouth with tools + suction... "Bro, I'd love to tell you more but all I can do is fυcking grunt."

And sadly, yes he had an Apple watch on.

Oh that is the one part I enjoy at the dentist. Wear a watch with a cool dial and let that blinding light the point in your mouth play on the dial. Take some pics. I did it with my mundane speedy looked really cool. I think a grand seiko to the dentist would be phenomenal. Probably easier just to use a light box or something but it gives me something to do in the chair of torture. I wish I never watched “marathon man” with Dustin Hoffman, can’t go to the dentist without that scene in my head.

Yeah, that scene is rough. Glad I didn't remember before today.

Generally for me the worst part of dental work from a pain/discomfort perspective is the frigging numbing shot in the gums before the actual work begins. Once I get through that I'm golden.

Ask them to apply numbing gel to the gums first...

yeah, the numbing gel probably helps, but just feeling that needle slide into the gum and then usually hitting some kind of nerve on the way is the worst.....but again, after that, no problems!

Awww come on guys I just read this whole thread and now I am curled up in a fetal ball, fearful of the whole world.

In the last few months several of my teeth have fractured with chewing hard foods ( rocks and such) and a couple of previous repairs and crowns too giving way after years of sterling service.

A couple of years ago one of my rear molars that had troubled me for about 10 years suddenly decided it had had enough of the on and off pain and after 10 plus years of trouble I had had enough and I obviated the root canal that the dentist suggested and told him to just remove it, best decision ever.
His advice at the time was that eventually the root canal would fail, be it in 5 years or 10.

All that hasn't affected my smile line ( I can still scare devils and angels alike) and I've got used to the different feel that my exploring tongue finds.
After years of being fastidious in the care of my teeth and advising others to do the same I now find myself suffering from neglect in this area, probably an age thing, lets hope it doesn't extend to other areas of my life as that would be a sure sign of mental decline and senility or Alzheimer's.

Well that was not too bad. Two fillings this AM, still feeling numb.

Next month they want to replace the crown. I asked about the 3D printing as that sounded interesting. Dentist said that they did not use that system as the porcelain was prone to cracking.

Not looking forward to having to go in twice.

My crown prep begins tomorrow at 8am... as a self avowed disliker of dental procedures -and- anything happening before 12 noon it's going to be a super fun morning.

Glad yours is going well though.

Oh puhleeze. Pain is my middle name. Injections? I don't care where either. "Gotta bigger needle doc? That one might not do the job. Maybe do it twice to be sure." 😁

They called yesterday and said, can you come in at 10 instead of 9. I like to get it over with while I am still asleep. Got there and the door was locked. Guess even dentist like an extra hour in the morining.

Yeah I was thining about this thread when he put the numbing gel on.

Of course@SC1 will not sleep post while waiting for it to wear off and post serious things that make sense when re-read.

Eugine Levey was in the news recently Guess I will have to re watch 'Splash.' Had to check IMDB to see if he was still alive. Now there is someone I would never buy a watch from.

Hahahahah. Normal shots in the limbs/posterior, no problem. Had to get a shot in the sole of my foot once and almost kicked the doc in the face.

Whoa hoss! Just back the truck up there Bugs Bunny!……. Don’t be so quick to munch on those damned evil carrots
Just ‘cos you got one toothie peg fixed, doesn’t mean the rest of ‘em won’t give up the ghost…..remember they’re all @ the same age and they’ve all done much the same amount of work.
