A Globemaster at a questionable price

Hello lovely people of the OF,

I was wondering if you’d be so kind to have a look at this Globemaster that’s come up online. Although I have always admired these watches (I personally consider them the most beautiful modern Omega) I don’t have a lot of experience with them… and by ‘not a lot of experience I mean… I’ve actually never seen one in the metal.

This one is selling at a very attractive/questionable price ($2900 USD), and was supposedly serviced last year… but I have no idea if Globemasters have been faked, or what the red flags are when navigating the purchase of a modern Omega on the gray market... perhaps the first red flag is the price…

If any of you would be willing to enlighten me I’d be greatly indebted.

Thanking you kindly,
Matt

Can't tell a lot from those photos - can you get the serial number from the seller as I cannot make it out.

I have the same watch, nothing jumps out to me from these photos, would be nice to see some photos under daylight, particularly showing the faceting on darkened hands, darkened star, darkened indices, and the bezel. It would be good to see more photos of movement with rotor in different positions.

Serial number on the case looks like 87730781 and on the movement maybe more of a 87730787? So its one of those, the numbers seem to match at least.

That said, the Reps of these are basically perfect looking as far as I can tell, so serial number search is your best bet.

I am surprised and sad to see such a low price for this watch. I have my skin in the game owning one. I consider it superior in every detail to the Aqua Terra line, and yet it sells for so low 🙁 So as many say, this watch is Omega's best kept secret.

Doesn't mean it isn't a scam, just that those are pics of a real watch 😀

Wouldn't be the first time a rep seller used real pictures and hopes you didn't notice

This is why you're supposed to request more photos in very specific situations (on a counter. Set to X time, etc).

Totally makes sense. The original price is over 7k; this offer is indeed very questionable.

Cheapest I could find online was $4500 for a GM, so this is quite suspicious.

Thanks for all your feedback, these are unfortunately the only images. The information on the service invoice that the user also provided says:

Item Name: Omega
Model Name: Globemaster
Serial Number: 87730767
REF (Reference): ST2002850
Movement: Co-Axial

The service happened on the 19th of July last year and cost the owner $400 USD

$400 is too cheap for an Omega service center and I’d be very suspicious of an independent at that price on a Co-axial movement. All the independent watchmakers I know charge prices similar to Omega for modern co-axial movements.

In short, I’d not assume a quality service was done.

Get him provide you with the Master chronometer certificate, which can be downloaded from Omega.

That's quite a low price at least from my perspective. I paid $4300 USD for a pre-owned one back in March of this year. Too good to be true? Not sure, just sayin....
