A big block Longines

I have had this watch since 2012 and sort of never got around to look at it properly. Bought it for less than 180 USD (but in Swedish kronor of course). What got me into buying mode was the size and the condition. It is a true 37 mm not counting the (original Longines) crown. Lugs still have very sharp bevels and the dial is in really nice shape - with only a little radium burn. The crystal unfortunately has some "dry cracks" (showing as dark lines in the pictures below) and I plan to have it replaced and at the same time have the movement serviced. Case back marked "6555 5" in one line and "83" below that - and case is marked "83" on back of lug. 12.68Z movement and the serial indicates around 54-55 I gather.

The pictures are not very flattering as the watch looks so much better live. The dial has a warm glow to it.

A service mark on the case back.

Looking forward to having this one serviced and to begin using it in rotation with my other watches.

Beautiful watch! I have a very similar watch in 18k with a 30L from roughly the same time period. They are wonderful and an incredible value.

Dibs!

And « never got around to look at it properly ».... it must be like a double joy to suddenly rediscover it!

Thanks! Joy indeed - and/but with a little embarrassment in the blend. It also shows how speed-blinded I was during that period - hunting and buying watches at a high pace. Now when I do not hunt anylonger I have started to really appreciate the watches. All 60 of them... 🤦

Hope my watchmaker doesn't chicken scratch the outside of my caseback!

Well it’s kind of a positive. For sometime you were enjoying the hunt and now, it’s a good thing you get to enjoy the watches!

How nice! The only things I can see that differs are the sub second hand and crown. Yours looks like it has survived very well too - sharp case and nice dial!

The dial must be even more beautiful in person.

I notice that watches with serial numbers closer together are similar models.

I wonder if production was set up to produce a set number of one model and then move to another model.
