Their turnaround is amazing, and their work is top notch.

Have you had a 321 serviced through them? If so, do you mind if I ask the cost?
No I have not, have had my FM's serviced.

I had my 105.012-65 Speedie serviced by Archer. Phenomenal job, and not across the pond.

I've had a 321 serviced by Nesbitt's about a year ago and I wouldn't recommend them for vintage. They do have a nice operation and are a very friendly couple but if I were to use them again it would only be for modern watches. The cost was a little bit over $1400 and in order for them to do the work they had to replace the vintage hands with new Superluminova hands. I can't remember if they replaced the crown or not but they did return all the hardware that was exchanged. I've since sold that piece and when I removed the caseback to take pictures the movement didn't look clean. I'm not accusing them of not completing the service but it did have some inconsistencies that I haven't seen with other serviced movements.

$1400 for a service? Replaced hands? Movement not clean?? What?! 😲

Blimey. $800 would have covered all of that (with vintage correct hands, and crown) at Swiss Time Services in the UK. Even less at Simon Freese Watchmakers. He is in demand, but his vintage watch service prices start at around $400.

It's called the NOOB tax. 🤦 I'm headed to the UK tomorrow, I'm planning on stopping by to see Simon with my birth year Speedy.

Alright fellas (and maybe the odd lady) - was able to grab a few more pictures this weekend. It's been on my wrist for the past three days really without exception, which is rare in it's own right. I think the appeal is a beautiful mix of a fat case that shows no sign of wear, and then a bezel / dial / hands that look like they've been worn vigorously over the years. I live the "condition, condition, condition" mantra by and large, so it's sorta fun to have a "beater" straight lug.

That's called rationalization, ChicagoFrog.....and we ALL do it. 😁

Extremely nice Speedmaster, well played, sir.

so I'm curious.. the "OMEGA Speedmaster" writing on the dial on the right looks much thinner than the dial on the left.. is there a reason for that? or is it just a photo illusion..?

Not an illusion. The one on the left is a -64 (22M serial), whereas the one on the right is a mid-range (24M) -65. It would appear that the later straight lug dials had a narrower font.

This picture is from sp101 and is a 145.003 (so the last straight lug) and it displays the same thin font dial.

Always happy to be corrected if others have more detail though!

My watch has a 24m movement and has the same "thin" font 😉

Cool. Thanks.
I'm still learning, so just checking if I was seeing correctly.
Both very beautiful examples! 😀
