$6k Ed White...who got it?

Hate to pose the question. But, why would this OF site be any different from other watch forums?

In the sense of Lurkers ready to pounce on all the work done by others? Versus contributing members.

Arguably this site is the best when it comes to dissecting deals to be had at Auctions or Ebay. We do make it so easy for a lurker to jump on the back of all our efforts.

The seller could be playing the classic card of squeezing more $'s. Who knows? (it seems not)

But good luck Rob in getting this over the line.

EDIT: Its not right...but...how do we protect against this?

It's worth pointing out the seller isn't squeezing me at all - they just said "congrats again, I gave you a great deal based on all the messages I've had since you bought it."

As far as OF - we do a good job of following the unwritten rule: don't talk about an eBay / classified listing until it's over. For the exact point you brought up above. That said, can't help but wonder if some people saw the thread here and then tried to undercut me. Maybe even worth asking the seller for the usernames of the people that did it...

This was a bummer to lose early last year. Paid for it. Seller canceled 30 minutes later and refunded. Then raised price from $4,000 to $15,000

However, all congrats to @ChicagoFrog on his purchase! I certainly have been on the positive side of the quick trigger. These 2 ebay scores come to mind and there were others. Both all original.

Total BS. This infuriates me. Hey here's an idea, instead of complaining about your buddies good fortune, why don't you get your head out of your butt and make your own good fortune.

This is not normal. Its almost stilling but legally. I am sure eBay is going to close this loophole one day. Maybe with next website update.

Would love to see how this one finally scrubs up.
There certainly have been some fantastic pick ups of late across OF.

Once bought a complete kitchen for tear-down for a ridiculously low price - the seller had a number of offers after agreeing to sell to us. Luckily, they stuck to the deal too 😀

Here it is after cleaning down, reapplying lacquer/oil:

Mahogany cabinets made by an ultra-expensive Danish cabinet maker, came with all white goods, too. Awesome find - has absolutely nothing to do with watches though 😁

That does look lovely, very bespoke.
Love the herringbone floor too.
What worktops did you go for?

Black granite. Costed twice as much as the cabinets..! The water tap (brass Quooker) added substantially to the final cost, too. I love to be in the kitchen, so knew it would end up expensive 😁

EDIT: I'm not made out of money, so a lot of research went into the restoration of our home. I found the best items at the lowest prices and we did a lot of work ourselves. The herringbone floor was laid down by myself, for instance.

Alrighty, the long voyage from Hawaii finally ended today! Case, caseback, and 7912/#6 are just in insane shape. Truly awesome. The dial has issues at the 11 o'clock plot, but that was pretty clear from the listing. After all of the hands are re-painted and the chrono hand is matched to the patina on the lower half of the dial, I think it'll be a very nice daily wearing straight lug! Off to STS on Monday next week.

Don't really see why you are so concerned and shocked? This was never an OF forum related transaction. It was an EBay auction and EBay is the Wild Wild West compared to this friendly place. Ebay auction Sellers (and Scammers) are often contacted by would be buyers (and scammers) trying to win. We didn't even know, until the next morning, that an OF member had won this EW. Would you care as much if the auction winner wasn't a member?

If someone had tried to jump an OF done deal, that is a completely different story. But that's not what happened here. Just sayin.
