Was just messaging with @ChicagoFrog on IG...this is kind of funny...

Back in 2015 I have a transitional 68 with a 220 in my cart, and when I hit BIN..it was gone. It showed up on here, and that is how I got to know him. Fast forward to 2016 when I got my 145.012-67...he was in the hunt for that and I got it. My 105.012-66 CB, same boat.

You win some, you lose some, but the fun is the game! Crazy how we all chase the same crap and know who ends up with it.

How much transitional 68 with a 220? and 145.012-67 and 105.012-66 CB? Did you get a good deal as above?

Yes, as the old saying goes - "those who hesitate are lost."

Appreciate the kudos, guys. Just happened to be in the right place at the right time, as is usually the case. This will be a fun little project for me. Lack of a crown and some gunk in the movement aren't ideal, but shouldn't be hard to sort out. Movement doesn't seem to have corrosion aside from the black gunk, and the case is very, very sharp. The 7912/#6's and DON were worth most of the purchase price, so I'll have no problem letting STS pile onto the bill. Plan to have the chrono hand matched / repaint the sub-dial hands (and base of the minute/hour hands), but will likely leave the rest untouched. I've batted around the idea of STS lightening up/matching the 10 o'clock-3 o'clock plots with the 5 o'clock-9 o'clock plots, but ultimately have decided to leave them alone. This can be my "beater" straight lug!

Also, a bit funny how the watch universe works. Yesterday left me feeling pretty sour up until this popped up on eBay. Why, you ask? Oh, I'll tell you.

So a couple weeks ago an ad popped up on Craigslist for a 2998-3...the single picture was awful and the hands were wrong, but it looked the part from what I could tell. The catch, however, was the idiot didn't leave any contact info / didn't activate the email relay, and didn't have a price listed. There was no way to get in touch with him and no idea what he wanted for it.

Well fast forward about 10 days...the guy updated the ad to include an email relay and listed it for $6K. I pounced on it. Pretty sure the guy wore tin foil hats, however, because once he learned that I wasn't in Houston, he called me a scammer and said he'd only deal with local people. All other inquiries went unreturned. So I reached out to three friends in Houston and had them all separately request to buy the watch. One of them got an immediate response on Wednesday around 10a that said "when can you meet? Call me at XXX-XXX-XXXX." Amazing news, right?

Wrong. My damn friend (a non-WIS) never called him and sent me a text at 10pm (in response to my five unanswered ones) that said "sorry I got busy and just didn't want to deal with it today, to be honest. I'll call him tomorrow." 馃槨 Woke up the next morning and the other two friends said "I just got a response saying he sold the watch." Spent the first 8 hours of my day lamenting the fact that I had a 2998-3 in the palm of my hand for $6K, and my friend had let it slip away. I'm still not totally over losing it...but won't lie, the 105.003 has helped to remind me that there's a yin and yang to this whole thing.

END SCENE

I seem to recall seeing a 2998-3 with a red chrono hand somewhere... Was that the one?

Either way, you win some and you lose some... On the bright side, at least you gained a "win" from this, bud!

When I got my tropical Speedy, I had a nightmare, yes a nightmare, that @gemini4 somehow got ahold of the seller and I never got the watch...no shit I lost sleep over it.

So glad the seller was a stand-up guy.

This happened to me recently on a rolex. The idiot who bought it offered it back in Ebay as well!

I can't think of many lower things in the watch world. If you lost, you lost. Get over it and move on, don't try to ruin it for the guy that beat you to the punch.

Edit: not you, gemini..."you" in a general sense
