I was well and truly scared off looking for a true Pogue. I read all the guides but there are just so many Frankenwatches out there. I landed a nice original blue 6139-6000 proof for 600euro that I enjoy wearing with a new stelux h-link. It just seemed less of a gamble.
I can’t believe I am researching to go down the vintage Speedy hole now though… wish me luck.

I'd note that the market seems just fine, or at least stable. A very nice example sold on ebay this wknd; it was missing a crown, and so had the usual deduction for the risk that entails, but sold for $1725, which, with taxes, is certainly not bad.

My watchmaker could never source one for me, they were always being bought before he contact me and get back to seller.
I eventually gave up because it was doing my head in trying to figure out what was original, good condition I gave up. Now I kick myself for not buying first one he offered me in 2015 for $700 ::puke::

Was eyeing that one with the missing crown a few weeks ago but didn’t bid. Pulled the trigger on one a week after that one ended. Been doing months of research and I think I did good! Hopefully! Lol let me know how I did. Just got serviced by Ashton some months ago. Little stuff like relume doesn’t bother me much, dial is most important I think to me. But let me know what you all think! Thanks. My first watch actually, told myself I wanted to treat myself with a watch someday.

Really nice. Got the no taper bracelet too! 30 min. Register looks clean, no deterioration. Hands beautiful.

Ashton is great too. Mine is with him now. Very fortunate to have some like him to work on these.

    Yeah, you did good.

Hello OF! I bought this Seiko last year. I serviced it and my watchmaker said that the machine has hardly been touched over the years. Works like quartz - so accurate! I haven't checked it in four months. I took it from a flea market and this is the authentic look and I believe that everything is original! 6139-6002 produced August 1971. I had others with the yellow dial, but in pretty bad condition, but this one grabbed me and I wear it regularly ...

    That's a nice looking watch.
The fame always goes to the yellow 'Pogue' version, but I think the silver and blue dials are (in my opinion....!) nicer watches. Both contrast nicely with the bezel and bracelet and have a great overall look. Nice pickup.

Awesome! Thank you for the feedback since prior to the purchase I didn’t get any opinions on it, so I still had slight worries in the back of my head about which things could have been aftermarket. Just received an uncle Seiko bracelet for it and it’s much sturdier! Keep the original tucked away.

I guess it depends on what you are looking for. Watches with obvious aftermarket parts can still be had for that price. Most of us are looking for honest original watches in great condition though. That definitely hurts the hip pocket.

Honestly, I agree. Many Seikos are still a good value for what they are, but these 6139-600x chronographs are just not that appealing to me TBH. The proportions are weird, and they are really top heavy.

I made a committed bid on a website before realizing it was redialed, relumed, new bezel, etc, good thing someone outbid me or else i'll be stuck with a frankenpogue for 450€

They actually wear well and are one of the most comfortable watches I have owned. As to the appearance, I suspect I'd find some of your watches to be unattractive.

I just posted some photos and information on the true pogue blast off thread. There is some help in identifying the repro dials that are making it difficult to be sure what you're getting. Fakes will always be part of vintage collecting. The fake Pogue dials can first be identified by looking far too clean and pristine, but there are some super nice originals. With the info I added today, you can be much more sure. Take a look.
