My AD had a jewelry/watch event this evening. I had the pleasure of meeting fellow Bostonian and current Omega Sales Director (East Coast), Adam Bossi. I was wearing my Trilogy Speedy while Adam was wearing a Seamaster 300 MC in titanium:

Dear Mach and everyone else who pitched in with their responses and pictures with regards to the wrist presence/size of the 60th vs the conventional 42, thank you!

I gather from what I have seen that the overall length of the watch (47-48mm), as it sits on the wrist, is very similar to the normal moonwatch. The wrist shots from Mach especially show this. Despite being smaller in size, overall, i think it wears very similar. My dilemma is, I can't really try it anywhere first. Here in Dubai, they have a silly (or sillier) method of having the watch delivered. They have only received about 4-5 pieces so far and while my name is on the list, they aren't given based on who was slotted first, but rather based on how well connected the person wanting the watch is - so, in the words of an Omega rep himself, that means CEO's, VVIP's etc. It's a cultural thing in the region.

However, there is one piece that is available at the moment which I can buy if I pay via CC upfront via an online purchase. Then the watch is delivered to my preferred Omega boutique (there are many here) and I can size and try it out there....

I’m not sure if this makes sense - but if a 48mm lug to lug length is a good fit foe your wrist, then the LE Speedy wears smaller than the Moonwatch, because naturally, the diameter (minus lugs is smaller). But if the 48mm length is too long for you then the Moonwatch looks more balanced on the wrist, because on the LE Speedy the lugs will look like they are hanging off the wrist. I have 7.5” wrist, as a reference - so this LE wears much smaller than the Moonwatch.

So, I got my call from the dealer for the Speedmaster this Friday. I have to be honest, 3 months ago I would not have hesitated for a second. This time I asked her if I could have a few minutes to think. I mailed her back 15 min later and told her I was not going to take it.

She said there was no worry as there was a waiting list and someone else would get it. I guess I could have bought it an tried to flip it for a profit, but at this stage I am/was so annoyed with Omega that I couldn't bring myself to buy it.

Fair enough. Everyone has to make their own decision. Was it just the wait time that swayed you?

I just got word that one was available for me due to a client backng out on their deposit. What are the odds that it's yours?
But I do feel your frustration, Omega took way too long to roll these out. They never get the delivery time right. Apologies...

Yes, I saw them release many models, and these became available within a reasonable time. To be honest, I could have specced and taken delivery of a Porsche GT3 faster than they took to make the watch (and this is an extreme example). Maybe I will regret it later, but I was really pi$$ed off with Omega.

Mine was from South Africa, did you get yours from there? It is a store in Bedford Centre, Johannesburg.

No... I'm in the US. The timing is uncanny but they probably backed out from their deposit cause it took too long

Hey All. I thought since we are getting closer to the launch of the 60th Anniversary '57 Speedmaster we should have an OFFICIAL post specifically for this model. As for me, I've had one on order since March 23rd at the Tyson's Corner, Virginia Omega Boutique. Looking forward to seeing the watch in person.

Do you know if a limited edition is being made?

I have always stated that I would never acquire a new watch without seeing it in the flesh first. There have simply been too many occasions of seeing a wrist shot of a timepiece on a forum only to be disappointed when I finally saw it in the flesh. There simply wasn’t that emotional connection. Obviously, I have violated my own doctrine.

I can totally appreciate your dilemma. But, I don't believe you will have any problems with the size. Your wrist appears only slightly smaller than mine. Unfortunately, for those of us with scrawny wrists, this may be are only opportunity. I surely doubt Omega would introduce a small diameter Speedy for men. I would take the risk and go for it. Through this experience, I've learned that one must take risks during watch pursuits.

Here's two additional photos for encouragement!

i just got mine today! was hoping to swap out the caseback so that it would retain the engravings and that it being a mirror finish it would be prone to scratch easily. I had initially intended to swap it out using those generic clear casebacks like the one on my 321, since i'm a sucker for these things, but i realised it doesn't fit. can anyone verify this? non of the other speedy casebacks would fit on the 60th? any ideas where I can get one?

p.s. it's the right most one for reference

Were you quoted an early delivery date? If so, that was wrong of your AD, as everyone knew there was going to be a wait before we saw these available for delivery.

I was told right from the very start, when I placed my order at the end of April, that delivery was going to be August at earliest, but most likely September or October realistically. I knew that there was going to be a wait before I would see the watch, but I was happy to accept it.

Yes, it was a little frustrating to see the Seamaster and Railmaster models being made available first, but when I got the call at the end of September and went to the AD, it was totally worth the exactly 5 month wait. You couldn't wipe the smile off my face for at least the following 2-3 weeks! And it still makes me feel so chuffed every time I look at it now.

I too hope you do not regret your decision . . .

A little rant:

I would have to strongly disagree with this statement. On the Omega pamphlet below, you see June delivery:

I placed my deposit on March 30th. Now, I prepared myself for a late August / early September delivery since I'm no VIP. But, I wasn't prepared, as I assume others have mentioned, to go through a complete 'period of darkness.' My point of contact was, "We get no heads-up. The only way I know if when I get the shipment info 2 days prior." There was not even any acknowledgement from Omega: "We have your deposit on the 60th Anniversary Speedmaster. Congratulations and thank you for being a valuable Omega customer, etc." I finally received my watch on November 3rd.

You are one of the fortunate ones to have been provided 'factual' info ahead of time. Since the end of August, I have visited the three ADs in my area to get some 'intel' on potential delivery dates with the same response as my POC. I even mentioned this to Adam Bossi when I met him last night. His response, "Switzerland doesn't give up a heads-up. We only know when we get the shipment notice." So, although I am thoroughly pleased with my superbly executed piece, I'm very disappointed with Omega's lack of a communication strategy, which IMHO there is no excuse for in this digital age and when it's almost 2018!

As an FYI, this is the first time I have ever ordered a LE watch. So, perhaps, my expectations were unreasonable. IMHO, this experience should have been filled with enjoyment and excitement since this is my first Omega. Perhaps, there should also be some anxiety since we are not fortunate to have seen it in the flesh before ordering. But, unfortunately, I found my initial experience highly frustrating. Now, realistically, if I pulled my deposit, Omega wouldn't care. They would just go down the list. So, I don't expect any changes from Omega.

Kind Regards,

Mark

Out of curiosity, why are some of you 'reluctant' to have your OB or AD size the bracelet? Did you have a bad prior experience? Perhaps, you like a challenge? I, myself, would be paranoid. I wish I had your confidence!

As an FYI, my wrist size is approximately 6.7". They had to take out 3 links on each side of the bracelet. I love the micro adjustment, which is quite valuable with the ever changing New England weather here in Boston this fall.

Thanks for the tip on the 3 links. My wrist is about the same as yours and that saved me a bunch of experimenting. The 1.8mm screwdriver did the trick (thanks Meme-Dweller) but definitely not a fan of the pin + 2 screws setup.

With Omega's delivery history, I would have read that as "$7,250 if you get a June delivery -- which is totally unlikely!" 😁

The first day after the Basel 2017 announced the Speedy 60th LE, I connected the OB immediately about the information. The salesman told me that I should buy the watch costed about 12 thousand US dollar, then I could be in the waiting list to have.

Of course, I give up the un-reasonable requirement, I changed to have some deposits on the AD. However, I still have no information about the delivery after a half year.
