Hi 565fixme,
Yes it was a fixed price, for £620. So what ever was needing to be replaced etc and serviced was included. I also had it returned in their red transit box. Which was more cost effective than the local repairer doing it.

Yea, those are the prices you have to expect from Omega directly. A good independent, like the aforementioned ones, will do the same job (maybe better) for less.

Yes he would done this, but would have been more costly, but to the parts. So sending to Omega, was more cost effective as it was a fixed price, what ever needed doing. Thank you for your reply. Nick.

If you were screwed over by a UK watchmaker in this way it would probably do the community a favour if you were to name them since none of us wants to repeat your experience. If what you say is true, there is nothing to fear in naming names.

Sending to Omega may be the best course of action in some cases but since prices have increased sharply recently, usually you’ll pay through the nose to do so. Start with a good Indy like Mitka, Watchguy, Genesis, STS etc. Often anything pre 1980 will now incur a 4 figure bill if sent to Southampton or worse still Bienne. They don’t usually charge just the fixed price for vintage stuff and of course any new shiny parts fitted may look unlike the originals, especially if lume is involved. I’d suggest your £620 was the exception not the rule.

In addition if you use a third party to send the item you are introducing increased risk and probably expense since they will take a cut from you but get billed at trade. If a watch must go to the mothership, it’s always best to send it yourself or via a boutique. Then you have complete oversight.

I do understand, your point which I do agree which disappointed me as it looked a reputable firm. The shop is Lowerly which is 74 North Street Chichester PO19 1LQ Phone number is 01243 789518. They had fitted the incorrect glass in and then failed to work are a short time, matter of a week. I am perhaps up for a dispute or a battle, not like my who is a stronger character.

Looks like I was fortunate with my watch repair, as I found "Perfect timing" on the Omega list of authorized repairers. I know could have taken it to an Omega boutique, which have a new one opened up in Covent gardens, which would have done but this one was more local. I greatly appreciate your advise and comments as I am not too business savvy.

A donor movement costs like $150 and if you were in Turkey, I'd service the watch for free. Too much pain for something that would take a day

Never a good sign if the business is primarily a jeweller (or "diamond specialist"). I'd ALWAYS steer clear of that. "Watchmaker" should be the primary business.

Sorry for your experience.
