3rd Watch for Collection (what to buy)

Honestly, I don’t really understand why watch collectors are so taken with Chronographs and Divers. I don’t race cars and I don’t dive, and I doubt any more than a tiny proportion of watch collectors do either. Of course there is the aesthetic appeal, and for some, appreciation of the engineering complexities, but other than that, I really am curious as to why so many people desire these big watches.
I think you’ll find a chronograph can be used to accurately time anything, not just race cars. Size wise, Divers and chronographs are available in small cases.

I would go for a more dressy piece as well - maybe an IWC Portugieser Chronograph?

Why does someone want a mechanical watch these days? Quartz are more accurate, and with eco-drive and such you don't even need to worry about battery changes. For me it is the history and engineering. Plus I use the chronograph for timing all sorts of things. I am PADI certified diver, but most everyone uses dive computer these days and not a watch. I do spend a fair bit of time on the water and I do prefer a dive watch for that.

I fall into this category as well. No chronos at all yet, but only want to add a Speedy and a Monaco for the collection aesthetics. Dive watches I've owned an assortment of and still gravitate towards as I do dive with them, and especially tend to use them if only skin diving or snorkeling.

For the OP's purposes, I stand by my earlier dress watch idea. Having something in the dress category can simply provide a sort of variety that might otherwise be lacking, IMHO.

What are people thoughts of a Rolex Pepsi or Batman?

Excellent watches, but you have the ceramic sub. Sub+GMT are very similar watches.
If I were you, I would try to find a dress watch—Patek Calatrava.

I'd also suggest the dress watch entry although if you are an always dress down guy then it might be a waste. Personally I love dress watches more and more as my taste matures. Something on a leather strap wouldn't go a miss anyway good luck!

Why does someone want one of these?.

When they could get to the same place with one of these?.

One speaks to you, the other is just.... there.

I agree that a dress watch would fit in very well. So how 'bout a pre-owned Lange 1815?

You got the diver, you got the chronograph. I'd get a dressier one. Maybe a JLC reverso or something.

You’ve hit the nail on the head for me. I’m not interested in cars, they’re just tools to get me from one place to another. I don’t need a sports car and they don’t speak to me. Cars with character do, I suppose. The only car I ever owned that I really enjoyed was a Citroen 2cv. I liked it for its engineering simplicity and design which was pure genius. Moreover, it did exactly what I needed it to do, and nothing more. I don’t need a car that can go 0-60 in 4 seconds, and I can’t make use of a car that can reach speeds of 180 mph even if I did want one, so why would I buy one? I can see that some people want supercars even if they don’t know how to drive them or they don’t have the opportunity to do so but if I could afford to collect cars, and was interested in them, I’d be buying cars that I could drive the way they were intended to be driven, and I think that’s my attitude to watches as well.

for the OP...you got 1 modern rolex sports watch already so that's kinda good enough unless you were eying some sort of vintage. however even still they will all resemble one another. you already got a nice big chronograph too. I like the suggestions of a Lecoultre and there are some super snazzy looking round stainless models with bracelets that would be a great addition as the third.

When looking for a modern dresswatch, I think the Globemaster is a watch to consider... Available in different dial / case variations and coming with a very timeless design.

This is what I would choose

Certainly lovely, do you think the subdial complication adds to the look or detracts from the elegant looking dial?
What is the name of this model of JLC?

Currently have a omega speedy tuesday and a rolex ceramic no date. What watch should I get to complete my 3 watch collection? I think 3 watches would give me a good rotation of watches. Budget of approx 10k-13K USD.
Thanks,

Craig

As mentioned before to others that need this type of help.

Need your age, occupation, hobbies to advise.

Don’t want to give you the fat middle aged bloke in a suit job advice accidentally 😉

On this the complication adds in my humble, the whole thing is just so damn beautiful, and it’s the JLC Master Ultra Thin Moon, if I could get down to three watches then this would be one of them.
