39.5 PO... the perfect Planet Ocean

Well, I really liked my 39.5 PO for the two months that I’ve had it, but it just feels slightly too small for my 6 3/4 - 7” wrist. I seem to be in-between sizes, with the 43.5 definitely feeling too top heavy, but the 42mm 8500 just right. I want my PO to be more substantial than my SMP. So I’m planning to sell it, probably on eBay or Chrono24 unless someone on this forum is interested. It’s in great condition, purchased new in late July 2020.

Looked over your previous pictures and the 39.5 looks well proportioned imho. Sure you aren’t over thinking it? Looks great!

Finally got mine, 39.5 is the perfect size for me with around 6-6.25 inch wrists. Pics attached! Very happy indeed.

That looks great!!! I've just replaced my 8500 45.5 after it was stolen, so 43.5 seemed just right for me. Very pleased with it. I think it might be a bit big for my wife though

Yeah I have a problem with the thickness on this piece. If they made a watch this size, with this lug-to-lug but gave it 300m and made it 2-3mm thinner, I'd buy it on credit tomorrow. I've bought a 38mm Aqua Terra as my first 'real' watch and honestly - its the only Omega I need. The rest are sized for Dave Bautista and I have no time for them. Love the co-axial movements but Omega need to start making watches smaller. They've lost a huge chunk of the market to the Oyster Perpetuals and Datejusts.

24 hrs in & I love the BB GMT, but I’m still regretting getting rid of PO. Unfortunately I promised myself (& my darling wife) that it’s now 1 out 1 in if they are a few quid.

Love it, best looking watch out at the moment IMO! Haha maybe a tad big - that's how the 45 looks on me 😁!

The thickness on the 39.5 is not too brash at all, can't talk for the bigger sizes - in fact wouldn't want it any thinner!

The BB GMT is an awesome watch! More wearable on a day-to-day. Enjoy it! I also promised my Mrs that I would only buy one watch and leave the rest of my ridiculous hobby to after we buy our first house.

I need to go and try one on. I had to return my SM300 Professional 42mm after a week because I couldn't get comfortable with it. I'm afraid if I go and try the PO on though... my poor wallet!

Very good point... the only good thing is, is due to the current climate you can negotiate a good deal with the dealer, I certainly did on my PO!

How did you manage to return it after a week of wearing?

Hey everyone,

I'm planning on a 39.5 PO as my first big boy watch. I think I'll keep it as my big daily, so I'm leaning towards black. That being said I do have quite a fascination with the all white albino dial. Anyone have any pics of the white dial? Originally, I thought it might not be as legible as I'd like, but people have said that the hands reflect well and it is quite legible. Would love to hear stories. Also, the only other thing keeping me from it is the 8800 movement does not have the jump hour. Not a deal breaker, but I would really like the jump hour for traveling purposes. Almost makes me want to consider the oreo GMT a bit more despite its 43.5 mm size.

Yes sometimes I wished by 8800 had the jumping hour feature. But I used to travel maybe once every 2-3 months max before covid, plus 2 hour changes a year, not a big deal at the end.

My prediction for the next PO case release is for a reversion to 42mm case with a slimmer profile.

I really wanted to like the 39.5mm version - my sweet spot is around 39 - 42 mm - but was put off by two considerations.
1. The height of the watch and the smaller base makes it feel top-heavy, even more so than the larger models; and,
2. For some reason Omega removed the quick-set (jumping) hour hand feature for the smaller case, which makes a watch much better for travel, and for dealing with seasonal time zone changes. I don't understand why they'd do that!

The jumpset is on the larger 43.5mm models and those are like 2mm thicker than the 39.5mm. Omega probably removed the jumpset to balance out the watch and not have a 39.5mm be 16mm thick.

They looked the watch up and down under a magnifier, acknowledged what tiny marks they could see and gave it to their in-house professional polisher. They charged me a flat fee of £80 and probably sold it to someone else as new after putting a new set of stickers on it. I wasn't allowed to return it for a refund, it had to be an exchange.
