3861 movement broken? *Update: Read First Post*

I think someone earlier was trying to figure out a way to correlate serial number with manufacture date, but I don't think that was successful right?

So we have no real way to tell if a 3861 sitting at the AD has been fixed or not?

So talked to my OB. Strangely, they are not aware of any issues regarding the 3861. They did, however, arrange a pickup and the Omega SC will call me in advance to discuss the issue further. Top notch service, but they are estimating 6-8 weeks for the watch to be serviced. 🙁

Im not sure if I'm having this problem. I received my second one (returned the first one) a couple of months ago. The first one would often just randomly stop with the chronograph running or when the second hand gets to about 58 seconds it would sometimes stop all together. So far the second one does not behave that way. Ive let it run fully wound with the chronograph running several times and always get 50-52 hours and 65 with it off. When the watch is fully wound every morning I can never get it to stop when starting and stopping the chronograph. A couple of times when the power reserver was about 15-25 hours in or more I would start it and the chronograph had would stutter almost a second at a time then it would stop. Based on some research ive done on a lateral clutch, if the chronograph gears engage with the top teeth of each gear hitting each other perfectly it can cause it to stutter like this and freeze as it puts more stress on the movement. Im going to hold off from sending it in for 8 weeks and if it gets worse over time ill take advantage of the service as they should have it nailed down by then. My understanding, if I read Archers post correctly, is that if its the bushing issue it will get worse over time the more you run the chronograph due to wear?

The bushing issue is not related at all to the chronograph running or not. The wear happens as the watch itself runs - the chronograph is just the thing that causes the problem to show up...

Thanks for clarifying. So in theory it should get worse and worse over time as it wears more?

Thanks. So based on my description above does it sound like a bushing issue? doesn't seem to be getting worse maybe better if anything and different behavior then the first one I had.

Watch is at Omega SC now. They haven't called my yet, but I can track the progress online and the only thing they've reported is that the watch is not functioning within the tolerances. They have ordered some parts, though the description is very cryptic, unless someone can make any sense of these numbers: O065Z013161, O066Z013160, O066Z013169

Those are hands for the watch...

I bought the 3861 hesalite beginning of August and after one month it became suddenly very very hard to wind. I gave it back to my AD and 2 month later it came back with a full service, replaced parts (including crystal, hands, …) and a transport case. Of course it was all taken under warranty. Now winding is smooth as butter, even smoother than when it was new.
Even if it took quite a long time, I am happy with the Omega service and don’t regret my purchase.

Wait, what?!! So I gave them a full description of the issue, even provided a link to this thread, and they’re replacing the hands!? 🍿

Purchased my first Omega watch on Thursday, 3861 hesalite speedy and had to return it today due to the same issue expressed throughout these posts. My chronograph stopped twice at 58 seconds despite the fact it was fully wound. Mini seconds counter on the left dial also stopped. Disappointing to say the least. Mine was ref number 832.

Watches of Switzerland were fine about it although had never heard of the issue, I was showing the sales assistant this forum post. They happily exchanged for the newest one they had received, this one I have is now ref number 833.

I will be monitoring to see if I have the same issues but fingers crossed should be fine. I am wondering if I just got one that had a general malfunction.

I delayed getting a 3861 thanks to Archer's posts months ago of how Omega was aware and issued a fix almost right away, so I got one end of October figuring new models by then should be fine going on the basis of my SA saying new Speedmasters move rather quickly.

It was October 30 when we were at the shop, they went and got me a 3861 from the back to play with, I tested the chrono for over an hour to see if the watch would freeze, while my wife tried on various watches. I was satisfied that, that particular Speedy was fine and mentioned I would take it when the SA said "You know you'll be getting one brand new in box, right, that one you're holding is a display model." D-oh!! Why didn't you tell me this an hour ago!!

I got a brand spankin' new 3861 fresh out of the coffin, it's never exhibited any of the problems I've read about on line, and I run the chrono all the time. Fantastic watch. Quickly became my favourite.

Just out of interest, what is the first 3 digits of your serial number? The one I had the issues with was 832 whereas this is 833 that I’ve got today.

I’m not sure there is a direct correlation between the serial and date of production; guessing this is something only Omega would know and this is not disclosed.

Hopefully the bushings are sorted on this one. The sales assistant assured me this is the latest one they’ve got in and before I arrived for my appointment ran the chrono for 1 hour.

My new 3861 that I sent in for Power Reserve issues was returned last week with the original bad part they replaced along with the original hands that they also replaced. Go figure?

829, guess it isn't newer then, oh well, it's solid so far.

Chalk up one more issue with 3861. Got mine earlier this year. Wear it gently and it just stopped working this week. Off for service

My two year old Apollo 11 50th is still running fine, no issues whatsoever. If it craps out I hope it does before August 2024 when the 5 yr warranty runs out.
