3572.50 vs 3592.50

Did i mess up? Maybe i should've just gotten a numbered 3592.50 and kept the new speedy? I feel like the rhodium plated speedy looks so nice, but the exclusivity/rarity of a numbered 3592.50 outweighs that?
It's really a matter of personal preference.

I went with a transitional/early 3572.50 w/yellow-gilded 863 movement:

Very nice!

Should I keep the new speedy or flip it for something else now that I have the 3572.50?

I think I'm gonna be on the look out for the transitional 3572.50...that's really nice!

I just bought my first Speedy through the forum here a couple weeks ago. It is an early 2000s 3572.50 with luminova and 1863 movement, rhodium.

I too was in your same predicament for months as I preferred the 3592 simply for the gilded movement. What I found in my extensive search was the 3592s that were in good enough shape for me were too expensive compared to the 3572s I liked.

I have to say, I am perfectly happy with my decision to save a few bucks and have working lume. The rhodium movement is just as beautiful through the loupe!

Are you saying you won’t get a working lume with a 3592? I’m trying to decide between the two.

What do you mean by "working"?
Working in terms of giving a nice patina at daylight - yes.
Working in terms of night readability - no. The half-value period of the radiation emitter is exceed. This plus general deterioration of the compound will lead to a gentle glow, hardly readable with those slim hands, at night.

Who cares about the front anyway 😉

A post 1998 luminova watch would have working lume. The watch the OP showed is a luminova dial.

But he inquired about a 3592 which will have a tritium dial unless it has a service dial AFAIK.

Benjamin, thanks for the info. Now I really have a dilemma. On one hand, I would really like a working lume. On the other hand, I prefer the gold back. And you’re right, in this case the back is pretty important. That’s the main reason for wanting this particular watch. I’m sure the aged markers on the 3592 look amazing in the light, too. Maybe I need one for each arm!

Super Luminova is over rated 😀

Tritium on a typical Speedmaster. If you want nighttime readability, the Speedmaster is not very good. Try a seamaster or a cell phone. Below is my 3572 with tritium and my Best Ever LE Speedmaster Ever Produced (also known as the Gemini 4).

Golden back and vanilla tritium is a pretty handsome combination for me🥰.
@Teddyangles advice is good. Night readability is the key feature of various divers or pilots watches. We need a watch for every situation. But it does not need to be the same 😁.

I do have other watches with good lume, but none with a gold skeleton back. I guess that was easier than I thought. Sometimes you just need to bounce these ideas off other watch nuts.

This is true. And the upside is it will generally lead to more watches.

On the Sapphire case back...it's much better if you have it on a speedy with leather vs bracelet. I bought my 3572 because I wanted a sapphire case back, but I prefer the bracelet on that watch and the bracelet makes it difficult to see the movement. I did buy a third party sapphire case back for my Ed White and works very well for movement viewing when I wear it on leather.

It’s funny you should mention the bracelet. I actually like the bracelet a little better on the 3572 because it’s a little chunkier, but I know I will mostly wear this watch with a leather strap. I love the vintage look of the speedy on distressed brown leather. Plus, having an unobstructed view of the back is essential. That’s also why this watch has to be a manual and not an automatic. Here are just a few of the various looks of my planet ocean. As you can see, I change straps like my wife changes shoes!

more shots from my archive for you guys
They’re both stunning. I can’t imagine parting with either one. I’m curious, which one did you like better?

Very informative thread, I plan to be on the search for either or reference (thinking 3572) more so for the Luminova. That Blue LE Gemini is gorgeous but hefty price tag on that one.
