321 Ed White center pins

I recall a discussion concerning the painted and unpainted center pins of the newest Ed White Speedmasters leaving the factory, but I cannot find it.

I purchased my example from the OB a little over a month ago and the center pins on the subdial hands and the center hands are all unpainted. From looking at pictures of hands from the earlier examples the center pins are like the 3861 - painted center hands and unpainted subdials.

is this what everyone else is seeing? The newest examples are all arriving with unpainted center pins?

Here is a picture of the one I have.

It looks to me that the hands were painted white after the pipe was swaged onto the hands, and then the paint was removed to give the effect of an unpainted pipe.

You did not read nor understand the initial post yet you insist on commenting like the other guy. This is why I gave up on watch forums. Please refrain from commenting if you do not own 321 or understand the simple question that was presented - Are all of the new 321s leaving the factory (like mine) with the center hands rivet unpainted?

This looks to be more historically accurate as the Cernan watch looks to have unpainted center hands.

This seems to me a simple question but it must not be.

Great, now after reading this I may go grey for an earlier one, especially the grey price when one shops around is not that much more than current retail.

I guess we're never going to be best buddies then.

There are about 25 BNIB Ed Whites on C24 ranging from USD 19k to 29k, with an avg of about 22k. I think the market price is really in the $19k to 20k range for a new watch, that's good markup over the MSRP of $14.6k. Pre owned are in the $18k to $24k range, still over retail. If you can source one not much more than retail jump on it.

I personally prefer the unpainted center hands that the newest 321 have as it is like the original, and all are the same (my neurotic side like this). That may be why it was changed.

If you look closely the Cernan watch below has all three hand sets with unpainted center rivet.

Just got out of bed to check mine, painted central hand, unpainted subdial hands. It's a relatively early (2021) version.

It's not something that would bother me either way, the watch is not a perfect rendition of the original (ceramic tachy insert, sapphire crystal front and back). Omega's website shows them with painted center, unpainted subdial so that is how the first ones came out, why they changed is unknown.

So interesting... small change but I wonder why.

It just looked unfinished to me, but I didn’t realize the original 321 pins were left unpainted as well. I have seen a few listed on MODA Facebook used 20-21 models $17500-17900 if I recall correctly ??? I had the opportunity to pick up a 21 in person at a used dealer named Collectors in NY around Christmas time in that similar price range but wasn’t ready to do it at the time. I did pick up a silver Snoopy at my local AD so who knows what could happen in near future…

Dear @BrownDog09, I guess you missed something here about Cernan's Speedy.
The centre pins were not all unpainted. Look at the minute sub-dial... By the way, they were not originally unpainted, this is just the result of their probable removal at some point.
If you really want your Speedy to look like Cernan's, I suggest you to toss the bezel and smash the crystal.

Best regards.

Your watchmaking seems to be another of your skill sets.
