I think that there is an important lesson in this thread. It's something that's said a lot, but is rarely acknowledged.

It is very difficult for anyone to tell whether vintage watches are all original or not from pictures on the internet. One really needs to see the piece in person.

There are several experienced collectors here and we still can't come to a consensus regarding this watch.

Even if we did, that doesn't make us right.

That is absolutely understood. I use the knowledge of the experienced collectors to decide whether I want to move forward. Frankly, had there not been a return policy, I would have thought a lot more about my decision. At the very least, I have a little time to give it the once over, take my own photos to support original opinions or rethink them. Regardless, thanks for the comments.

Very true.

I am not a seasoned collector, nor have I had hands-on experience on many vintage watches, but I find that my first impressions about any vintage watch I've assesed are nearly always spot on. For this watch, my gut feeling tells me that since the case is so sharp (look at that bezel!) there is a very good chance that the dial is original. Had the case been polished several times and the case back was knackered, it had been inconsistent and I would have leaned towards redial...

Great watch - uncommon, and has a textured, black dial 馃憤馃憤

Until they're not.

So far, so good.

We've all made some mistakes.

Just wondering if you got the watch and can post some pictures?
Thanks!

I did. I will but I have been out of town. Here's a not-great wrist shot I took a week or so ago.
