While I wasn't truly sweating it, I am at least a little relieved that this release isn't going to make me regret pulling the trigger on a moonwatch six months ago.

I really geek out about the precision and accuracy of these things, so that aspect is exciting. But not + $4k exciting. This one's also too big for my taste. I do like the looks of it though. Just not for me

So I wonder how they will integrate this in the Moonwatch. Along with an updated design? Difficult to change the Moonwatch too much I guess. So maybe just the new movement and a price increase?

At £10700.00 it has definitely stung me .

Yep.

I paid around CAD 6200.00 for my 9900-based Speedy Racing a few years back. Not such a bargain now.

I doubt there's going to be a major upgrade for the Moonwatch. Too much heritage for Omega and making a major design update will piss off a lot of Moonwatch fans.

Read that - still unsure what standard METAS is certifying it to - if it's just the normal Master Chronometer, then it's no different certification wise from the existing calibers.

There is certainly some "word smithing" going on, but Omega says "it's possible for Omega to achieve certified precision of 0/+2" No where has METAS and +2 been used in the same sentence. It is clear as mud.

The 3861 was a major Moonwatch upgrade - taking it farther away from the Moonwatch heritage than its ever been. To think they would not bring it to the Moonwatch offering at some point ...

3861 still has some lineage to the 321 from 861 to 1861 to 3861 while the design language of the Speedmaster has remained largely unchanged. The 1861 was in production for like 30 years. I doubt Omega is suddenly going to drop the 3861 after 5 or even 10 years.

Not considering aesthetics, only movement design, the 3861 being Co-axial .. that is a huge change in my mind. Working in this new mechanism just seems like a given.

I've been lurking around on watch forums for over a decade and I have never seen a single person express interest in the Wiz Khalifa Aqua Terra... why are they paying tribute to this? hahaha, so random!

Wow, I have one & it’s one of my favorites.

Said another way, it's pretty cool that Omega came up with technology that exceeds the highest certifying board. The certifying agency has to be upgraded to match the technology, not the other way around.

Something worth bragging about. 😀

Have you seen the pusher?

Interesting new inliner...

It's been around on the 44.25mm Speedmaster automatics for a while. The splines help to keep the pusher caps from rotating unnecessarily. A cool design, but would be cooler if they allowed for 100m water resistance.

Could not read all 17 pages- has anyone made the point yet that of the course the brilliant release of the Moonswatch has laid the ground for this thing to make a killing?

I’ll be very curious how well they do— especially after the Swatch group nixed Basel World, clearly those campaigns are showing they can release a watch on their own.

Its hilarious that Baselworld thinks its coming back in some meaningful way still, now that the brands realise they never needed it at all and that its way better to release watches throughout the year on their own terms to give each model some air to breathe.

Funny I didn’t notice they were trying to stage a comeback. I found them so intensely arrogant and unpleasant and wasn’t surprised to see them go.

Wordsmithing aside, Omega could simply be applying the equivalent of the Superlative Chronometer standard and to that they are beating Rolex at their own game at every turn.

If Omega have the integrity to back up their product on a global scale, they won't need an independent certifying authority.

From the website it comes with a Master Chronometer certificate and the terms of that are still only +0 to +5. So there doesn’t seem to be a new METAS standard yet, and it remains to be seen whether if a Super Racing is running at +3 or +4, whether or not that will be considered a warranty issue or free regulation or not.

Very interesting and a good point. I wonder what the process is to establish a new METAS standard…how long it takes and if it’s a complicated expensive pursuit.

It's a certified rate of between 0 and +2. Like many things, the closer you get to perfection, the harder small gains are to achieve. This is pretty much a direct challenge to Rolex with their "superlative" thingy that they certify in-house (in other words, trust us, we've never lied to you in the past right?).

For me the big thing will be if this is certified through another class of METAS ratings or not. If it is, that's pretty big news if you care about actual timekeeping. Certainly not everyone does, as we all collect for our own reasons.
I agree this is two fingers up to Rolex.

Will this new Spirate thingy improve isochronism and/or reduce delta? Or, will it just make regulating (centering the mean rate) easier?
