Rolex Sky Dweller ? For me that is the opposite of Class and Style. A horrible monster at any price. Would never wear one, even if it was gifted.....

Don’t hold back! 😁

The “journalist” shilling is at It’s fever pitch

The argument: it now has the same case as the GMT, the same luminous numerals as the Explorer, and the “0” before the “5” brings the dial together.

Instead of trying to convince this is revolutionary, just write that Rolex’s specialty is staying the same!

I used to be a big fan of the ‘dink… but this type of nonsense has turned me off more and more.
I still very much enjoy reading or listening to Jack Forster and Cole Pennington, but for the rest… small picking!!

I think they’ve made it look even worse, when I didn’t think it was possible to do so. With this and the left handed gmt I’m wondering whether Rolex are intentionally taking the piss this year. It’s one of the worst yearly releases I’ve seen.

I honestly don’t think I’d buy any of this years releases even if they were available.

Their goal is not necessarily to create more hysteria, as the state of the Rolex market is already insane, but they are definitely pushing for more expensive watches.
I mean, the vast majority of the releases this year are: Platinum, Platinum, Platinum… and then a few other PM and precious stone-set watches.
So, yeah, I was not expecting a new amazing SS Prof. model this year again…

I wasn’t expecting more hysteria as you have put it, but I certainly wasn’t expecting the hideous looking creations that they have come up with.

I suspect you are right about the move to more expensive materials being the norm however….

This is a massive brain fart from Rolex in my opinion but I assume they (think) they know what they are doing.

Without getting too misty eyed, Rolex used to be so cool, or at least they made very cool watches (with very few exceptions). All that started to change around 2010 for me.

What is that Air King all about? Its even worse than the Left Hander GMT.

Not trying to defend Rolex, but genuinely curious: what do you think is so terrible about the LHD GMT Sprite?

at the risk of sounding bitter (I am), on the 10th anniversary of the SkyDweller they tease “look skyward” only to release this Airking?!

Flagrant foul!

Apart from the way it looks?

Imo it appears upside down and the colour scheme is terrible.

Is it me or am I the only one seeing this?

Uhm, excuse me? The Seiko does not have a ‘0’ in front of the ‘5’

…and I prefer the Seiko
Seiko is clearly copying Rolex. <sarcasm>

I actually like the addition of the "0" in front of the 5 on the new AirKing. I still don't like the watch, and I'm still laughing at Hodinkee (and others) thinking this is some kind of amazing development for Rolex. These releases were bland at best. Phoning it in. They added a zero to a dial that has needed it for a decade and figured out how to make a left-handed watch.

They also proved that time-travel exists, because clearly previous manufacturers of lefty watches traveled to the present from the past to steal the idea from Rolex in advance.

In regards to this new Airking:
They took one of the most elegant designs Rolex has ever made

and turned it into a cluttered dumpster fire love-child of an Explorer and a seiko.

i think of the words of Coco Chanel in regards to - look in the mirror before you leave the house and take one thing off…they should have taken about 4 off of this.

agree the new Air King is an abomination of a design. Totally messed up dial.... 🙁
the old Air King looked much like a Datejust.
could this be the reason they felt the need to change the design?

Or the DJ looks like the Airking/ OP/OPD 😉 They have been in the catalog longer than the DJ.
They are just trying to keep things fresh, I get it- they can’t keep flogging the same old designs, year after year, with just a little tweak here or there…..or can they😵‍💫
