2021 Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch - Daily Wear

Any feedback on the 2021 Speedy as an everyday wear? The new bracelet is great, but it makes me wonder if it would hold up to daily wear. For context, I’m a banker with other watches to wear at the beach, swimming, etc. Interested in the Speedy for something to wear to work everyday and on weekends when I’m out with the family. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum Pilot- love your avatar.

Speedys are very robust. I wore my ‘72 for hard field duty including extreme back-country work. It never missed a beat although I did knock the bezel off slamming into a rock on the way down a ravine- it popped back on with a hard push.
Throw anything you want at them, they can take it.

A Speedmaster as a daily wearer? Of course.

Id be hesitant taking even a new Speedmaster swimming but aside from that it’s solid and will take desk diving without breaking a sweat. I wore my ‘65 Speedmaster as a daily for a couple of years not so long ago with no problems.

If it can handle the wear and tear of astronauts… I am sure it will be able to handle the one from a banker, even of the Wolf of Wall Street!! 😁

If you are OCD about hairline scratches, you may find the crystal version of the watch to be a better fit for you… but if you are really rough with your watches (doubt it), then Hesalite is better as it won’t shatter.

Let us know what you end up doing. Please.

I am wearing the crap out of my late run FOIS. (The Amateur non-professional Speedy). Still looks new. Will not test to see if it acts as body armour though.

Your point is very well taken! Lol! My daily go-to the last 5 years has been a Tag Heuer Aquaracer. It’s held up great! Makes me think very hard about going for the Planet Ocean. I also think that is part of my second guessing the Speedy. I’m use to wearing bigger, chunkier watches like the Tag. The smallness of the bracelet on the Speedy will take some getting use too although I’m sure it will be way more wearable than the Planet Ocean.

Would love your thoughts on the Planet Ocean if you have any.

A- don’t get fooled by the width of the Speedy bracelet, it is very well built and sturdy
B- the reason why dive watches are SO popular, and often are the one-watch for most people, is because you do not need to worry about taking it in the water or ANY other adventure
And C- I don’t have much practical experience with the PO line but they are obviously also well built and could also be a choice for you, it seems.

For what it is worth, the Seamaster 300M was my first Omega watch and at the end of the day, it is purely a question of preference (ie, design, complications you would like to have or not - chronograph, date, etc-), water resistance, etc etc. vs. your lifestyle and anticipated use (and, let’s not kid ourselves), the image you would like to project.

If you already have a dive watch, then my vote would go to the Speedy!! Good luck with your hunt… it is one of the best parts of the hobby after all.

Re bracelets- once you go vintage you can’t wear big chunky bracelets anymore. The slimmer ones are light, flexible and wear like silk. I’m glad there are some companies that still get it.

I wear my 3861 everyday and have not had any problems. It gets wet a few times a week and banged probably at least once a day. The POs are nice but may look out of place if you’re wearing a dress shirt or something at your work IMO.

I wear my 022 as daily wear and it feels great. I don’t exercise and swim with it but I guess it’s obvious. Maybe seamaster would be better or at least new speedy but who cares when you love that one 😉

I love the Speedy on the black leather band! Not sure why Omega stopped including all of the extra goodies in this latest version. Having two extra bands would be sweet! Is that the black leather band that comes with the watch?

$$$$$. Bigger box, a couple of straps, springbar tool, loupe and medallion isn't all that much from a cost perspective, but with volume it adds up.

You’re right there. They increased the price while decreasing the “goodies” you get. I’m not mad about that though, I get it. I’ve tried on previous Speedy’s many times before, and honestly, this newest version is, IMO, the nicest iteration yet. That bracelet is amazing! I finally get to buy it on February 3rd. Not sure I’ll ever buy a Rolex, might just collect Omegas! Lol!

Not a bad thing to collect Omegas… and in due time, I am certain that Rolex SS Sport models will be somewhat readily available again.

The latest type of watches pushed by dealers and “influencers” / publications are pocket watches and dress watches. Sports watches will be a thing of the past in a couple of years… 😁

It’s funny, as I’ve gotten older my tastes have shifted from bigger, sporty watches to smaller watches. To me the Speedy is best of both worlds. It’s still a decent size while still being small enough to easily slide under a dress shirt. Can be worn with jeans or a suit. IMO, it’s got to be one of the most versatile watches you can buy.

Can not agree more! Looks great on the bracelet, looks the part with a NATO… and looks so dressy with a nice black croc strap!!!!

As others have said, I’ve had my 3861 hesalite version for a couple days short of 1 year and have worn it pretty much everyday other than when I go on holiday abroad due to not wanting to leave it in a hotel room safe or Air BnB when going to the beach or pool.

It’s not failed me yet and suits pretty much anything I’d wear.

Hey! Im a newbie to the Omega speedster world (well hopefully if my purchase goes as planned!)
I am attempting to buy a speedmaster moonwatch 3861 second hand but im worried about the authenticity. It seems legit and comes with the warranty, serial number on card that matches the watch and the original box etc - but how do I clarify that the serial number is legit?

Can anyone help? The serial number is - 83220749. It might be fine but its a big chunk of change to lose if im wrong...
Thanks for reading!
