Hey! Im a newbie to the Omega speedster world (well hopefully if my purchase goes as planned!)
I am attempting to buy a speedmaster moonwatch 3861 second hand but im worried about the authenticity. It seems legit and comes with the warranty, serial number on card that matches the watch and the original box etc - but how do I clarify that the serial number is legit?

Can anyone help? The serial number is - 83220749. It might be fine but its a big chunk of change to lose if im wrong...
Thanks for reading!
If it comes with all the cards, and has the correct subdial spacing for the Speedmaster, it's highly unlikely for it to be fake. Super clone movements haven't been made for the Speedmaster, so fakes pretty much always have the aesthetics wrong. If you need peace of mind though, ask the seller to provide proof of purchase or go to a boutique and see if they can verify the serial number.

What is the correct subdial spacing? Is there a visual example that you could reference? Also - do you know of anyway online to authenticate the serial number? Im meeting with the seller on Friday and im doing as much research as I can prior!! Many thanks!

This is the face of the watch and I believe the subdials are not cutting into the 3 and 9 - thoughts?

As a sidebar, how much research have you done on the seller?
At the point of purchasing, to me at least, I'd much rather have my research "paper" filled out on the seller than the watch ~ the watch research part happens earlier not later.

It's genuine.
Ha! All you needed was a photo?!
My suspicion is its real. From my conversations with the seller and the research I have been doing the last few weeks, along with the serial number, warranty and original box, the odds are on my side. BUT I don't know how good the fakes are of this particular watch as I am new to them.
Your opinion has been very settling tho and I appreciate you taking the time to converse. Thank you.

Yea I've been texting them and getting more photos sent over and doing my due diligence - as much as I can.

I have yea - but what would you be looking for? I have a decent picture of the serial number and it matches the card.

I’m sorry did someone literally just ask if a Soeedy Pro was a good daily wearer?

I mean I’m not sure there are more then a few watches ideally suited for that role.

Me, I'd be looking for a lot of photos of a watch that's about to cost me thousands of dollars -- not only because I want to look and see if anything POPS at me in a bad way but also because I would be excited as shit and want to see as many photos as possible, well, because!

When I've purchased privately I usually receive around 10-15 photos... maybe six of those the seller has already taken for their ad while the rest are at my request.

Clearly the watch is authentic, as already established, at this point I'd be wanting photos for excitement and condition wear & tear documentation.

Yea I totally agree! I have a good amount of photos and it seems good to me as far as I can see. I am extremely excited for this watch - its my first big investment into a time piece and it was the only one that really spoke to me. Im a huge fan of space exploration and the history of this piece really speaks to me. I am very excited.
Thanks for all the feedback - Ill send photos of it when I get it on Friday - if im not beaten and robbed... (joke)

Happy that you are excited, but at the same time, I can’t help but think that you are not really ready for this.
First off, making your type of “joke” does not show me that you have total trust in the seller.
There are literally dozens of great sellers on this forum alone, located all over the world, that have established reputation AND good prices, so I am not sure why you would chance anything.
Again, understand that you are excited, but this is not a small purchase and peace of mind should be a prerequisite.
Good luck with whatever you do and we are awaiting pictures whenever your deal will have happened.

/End thread drift.

I love the Speedy on the black leather band! Not sure why Omega stopped including all of the extra goodies in this latest version. Having two extra bands would be sweet! Is that the black leather band that comes with the watch?
It’s not. It’s a leather strap, not omega one. No brand indication 😀

Now I dont want to inflame any stereotypes of China, but I have found out the watch was purchased there in May 2021 (although the date looks suspicious to me?) - should this be causing more red flags than usual? Attached are the warranty cards...

Everything looks completely legitimate to me about those cards... could be Hong Kong or lots of places and not necessarily anything suspect.
Chinese folk purchase a lot of Swiss watches.
