Hi, I have inherited an Omega from my late grandfather, I have not a huge amount of info about it and would like to identify the model. The back is engraved as it was a present which states the year to be 1978, assuming the gift was purchased around the time of the occasion I would guess this is the year. I don’t know if a photo is enough to go on but I have attached a photo. Any advice on identifying it would be helpful. Thanks.

 

Most of the useful information will be inside the watch, e.g. the reference number inside the case-back and the serial number on the movement. There won't be a model name per se, just the reference number.

 

Yeah I thought that would be the case. I am not going to take it apart but I am going to get it serviced so I guess I can ask them to note down the numbers. Would a standard jeweller do a service or would it need an Omega specialist?

 

Probably a reference 136.0104, caliber 1030.

 

You don't necessarily need an Omega specialist (although it would be nice to find), but I would recommend looking for an experienced independent watchmaker who frequently works on vintage watches. Many jewelers don't actually do watch repair in-house, but instead outsource these services.

 

I think this one is new enough that you might consider factory service when you're looking. If you're in the US I can definitely recommend Nesbit's in Seattle.
