I think that 1200$ for this ref, gold capped, is more than is real value. I see some full gold at this price…

Apologies. I attached. Spent $1295 on it. No idea if it was a good deal.

Gorgeous Restored Condition - Fully Omega - 1 Year Warranty

Today's auction showcases this gorgeously restored example of one of Omega's classic vintage gent's watches. It is full size, measuring 35mm in diameter - in between the size of a Rolex Date and a Rolex Datejust - and has a quick-setting date.

Living up to its name as one of the elegant and sophisticated "De Ville" models, it has a classic case and luxurious gold dial.

Powering it is Omega's automatic caliber 1012 23 jewel movement found in Seamasters and other models from the era. Its so-called "tropical" or "hypo-allergenice" gold plated case with steel back has the look of a solid gold Omega for a fraction of the price.

It is 100% Omega down to the dial, hands, and winding crown.

It has just finished a true expertly done restoration and presents in gorgeous condition.

The case presents as mint. The dial has been meticulously sympathetically restored - the printing could pass as Omega factory done to the naked eye and the dots at the hour markers have been done in a vintage toned sepia color.

As part of the restoration the movement has just been fully serviced by a Master Watchmaker. It is keeping extremely accurate time.

Included with the purchase is a one-year warranty on the movement and its function, a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity, and a new timing certificate attesting to the watch's performance.

For the finishing touch a new aftermarket leather strap has been installed making it ready for immediate enjoyment.

A five decade old Omega that presents like new on the wrist!

Omega:
Omega watches can be found on the wrists of many prominent figures including Pierce Brosnan, Michael Schumacher, Michael Phelps, Ernie Els, Prince William, and one graced the wrist of President John F. Kennedy. Omega has been the official timekeeper for 21 Olympic Games and is the official chronometer of NASA.

We also stock lizard and a variety of others straps in various prints, skins, and colors. Please ask us if you're interested.

Any reasons why it was a ripoff?

primarily because the dial has been refinished, which pretty much destroys collectability and market value, and secondarily because it's gold plated case, which is not generally considered desirable.

The two together is a bit of a kiss of death, and at that eye watering price, kind of a kick in the nuts.

no offense intended.

If possible cancel the deal or return the watch, educate yourself here on the forum for a bit, and try again.

Like all watches from this seller, everything is fully described (to the point of TMI), so returning it because of "buyer's remorse" may be an issue.

At the end of the day it's been fully serviced (deduct the service cost from your outlay, say $400), it has a one year warranty and if you like the look of it, just wear it and enjoy it.

refinish dial? I'm not sure.

Don’t wear it and enjoy it like others have said. You paid over $1,000 for this lame $300 watch. Serviced or not, look at the watch c’mon it’s not great at all. It’s a redial and a deville (that model does not get to ask for a premium).

Go return it. Don’t say it’s buyer’s remorse. Find some other excuse. eBay will be on your side.

please get your money back. Next time, do more research. Don’t buy it just because it says omega. If you really want this model and serviced… it’s $500 at best… and find an original dial. This one is poor and crap.

$400 for a service? That’s insane. The watch is barely worth that.

You’re telling him to suck it up for a small mistake? If he is able to return it, he 100% should. This is really bad advice. Would you give it to yourself? What bright side is there to look at in this situation?

I'm not telling him to do anything's just putting up my opinion.
Best case? He can return it.
Worst case? He has to live with it.
So my post was to help alleviate some of the cost pain. As to service cost, this is a global forum and in my area $400 is an acceptable price for servicing a monocoque cased watch like this.

I feel that trying to cancel a sale because you feel you paid too much, in an auction no less, is distinctly ungentlemanly. Live, learn, take it like a man and don't do it again. Watch looks nice so no big deal in the long run and certainly not one to be ashamed of when wearing it.

To point out the obvious, the cost of servicing something is in no way related to what the item is worth.

How about this one? On sale for $850. Dial is original but repainted. New aftermarket crystal and second hand fitted. Seller says in excellent condition. I'm asking if its been serviced recently.

Dial is original but repainted
If the dial has been repainted that means it isn’t original. You need to slow down and take your time before making another regrettable purchase. This one is grossly overpriced. Even $850 for an original version of this watch would be ludicrous. Stick to the private listings on OF. Do your research or else you’ll be paying another round of the “noob tax”.
