Hi OF!

I have for sale today a beautiful transitional Speedy from ‘68. Hesitant to let this one go but as I just received a “grail” something has to go. I will be posting a couple others as well.

Beautiful step dial with lume intact, there are a couple of markers where some has been lost. Creamy hands and markers that look great in direct sunlight. Applied metal logo was a must for me!

Case is strong, likely polished in the past but not in my possession. DON bezel is in excellent shape with a slight blue/grey hue in direct light.

Comes on 1039 bracelet with 516 endlinks. Moderate stretch but another piece of this watch that was important to me.

Winds smooth, chronograph starts, stops, resets as intended. It has not been serviced in my possession and the 12hr counter does not advance so service is recommended. S/N is 26555676, placing this early in the Transitional reference per William’s chart.

All in all, not a perfect example but checks all the vintage Speedy boxes for me.

Priced at $8,750 USD now $8,250 and looking for CONUS sale only at this time. Price will include shipping which we can discuss preferred method. Payment by wire preferred or PP but buyer will be responsible for any fees. No returns, so please pay close attention to pictures.

Feel free to ask any questions or request additional pictures/video. DM is best.

Thanks to this wonderful community, hoping to keep this one within the OF family!

Cheers,
Jim

These don't come up for sale that often, she's a beauty.

Nice! Where's the movement-shot seeing as the case back was off...

The caseback shot was from when I purchased. I don’t want to risk scratching the caseback but if necessary, will get a local watchmaker to remove.

Thanks for clarifying. Personally I find it essential to see the movement before purchasing a vintage watch. No pics from when you purchased?

I understand the multiple requests for movement pictures. I attempted to open myself with a ball, no luck. I am trying to track down the seller for a movement picture. If/when received, I will update this listing. Appreciate the interest and understanding. 👍

I wouldn’t expect a member in good standing who is uncomfortable with opening a case back to risk it just for a sale photo. Nor would I expect them to incur the hassle and cost of having a watchmaker open it just to confirm there is a movement in the watch and take a picture.
If a movement pic is a make or break for you, then this may not be the watch for you.

You are right, it isn't for me then.

Just to clarify though, I don't expect anyone to open a watch or provide pics of the movement, I was asking, seeing as a movement as nice as the watch itself could have pushed me over the edge and because I've had nasty surprises with vintage watch movements in the past, including a watch movement from a different era....

Wasn’t speaking directly to you on this- it’s an issue some have brought up before on high dollar watches.
When it’s collectible and serial ranges are important (like with a transitional model such as this) you want to be sure. But not all of us have the same expertise fiddling with watches, nor relationship with a watchmaker that would be happy to clear their schedule to do an on-the-spot case opening for someone, particularly if a pressure test is involved after opening.

I’m sure between established and credible members here, there wouldn’t be an issue with a grace period for the buyer to inspect (and carefully open the back) to ease concerns- but that’s obviously up to the buyer and seller to arrange.

I don't completely agree on this. I have seen Speed movements that were incredibly dirty with the gasket completely melted.
The movement picture is an important part when buying a watch. Of course the seller here is a trustworthy person and Speed casebacks can be a pain to open. It's just a very honest question to ask for that picture. Just my opinion of course. I respect everyone's opinion.

IMO the general conversation about movement photos is inappropriate for a sales thread and I have reported those posts.

I’m sorry I started a s…storm just by enquiring about a movement pic, which I believe is important in the sale of such a gorgeous watch….
