·Up for sale is an Omega Speedmaster from the pre moon straight lug era, the legendary Ed White reference 105.003-65 produced on January 12 1968. It comes as a "full set" but the papers are incomplete.
.
The watch is in good condition overall and was serviced by Simon Freese here in the UK in October of 2020 so it still has a few months left on it's 12 month warranty. It's 321 movement is number 249570XX and it was delivered to the UK.
These papers came with the watch when it was purchased. Unfortunately the original salesperson did not complete the movement number nor the date. Interestingly it does refer to the watch as a 145.003 which is the correct reference number as Omega switched to the Mapics system in mid 1967 though the case reference remained the same.
The watch does show signs of a life well lived and wear commensurate to it's age. It has it's original desirable DON bezel and its original 1035/506 bracelet dated to the first quarter of 1968.
The dial is in very good condition though the lume plots were relumed by Mr. Freese. The hands have also been relumed with the exception of the drop chrono hand which is a NOS replacement with its original tritium still intact. The hour and minute hands had some paint loss at the centre which was repainted by Mr. Freese. The small chrono hands also seem to have been repainted at some point but this was done prior to my ownership.
The flat link bracelet is in very good condition and retains its spring and the fixed links are not stretched nor worn.
I believe everything else to be correct on the watch. The pushers and crown seem to be original. The crystal has been worn and polished and I cannot discern the centre Omega logo though it was the opinion of Mr. Freese that it is the original Omega crystal.
PRICE: £9,500
The watch is located in the UK. Happy to ship worldwide on quote. In person purchases or inspections welcome in London.
