I like tank watches and came across this on eBay. I'm fairly new to the Omega brand and know there are a lot of redials/fakes out there and am hoping that some more knowledge people will be able to confirm if it's genuine and worth picking up. The serial number is from 1968 and it's gold plated. I really like the design of this one so I'm keen to make sure.

Thanks.

Aside from the gold plating tarnishing and perhaps some brassing on the far edges of the case (I cannot be sure since the pictures aren't the best), it looks good to me. I personally wouldn't buy this one simply because I'm not into square cases and don't like plated watches but if you can get it for under, say, 300USD, why not?

I am scrapping out one just like that for the movement, although mine is automatic with SS. The one I have has a naff dial, and I would rather have the ladies case. The most valuable thing on these watches are the hands, which are unobtanum. Balance complete units are also getting pricey as hairsprings are easily damaged.

I'll keep the old case, dial and hands just in case I find a cheap 671 movement sans case. As the supply of the nicer watches diminish these may get more attractive to entry level collectors. Such watches are of a cost cutting era using the smaller 'Ladies' sized movements in cheap stamped out GF cases. The smaller movements are also going to be more costly to maintain, so a service can be many times what the watch is worth.

It is always hard to predict though what will be popular down the road.

Looking at the full size photos in the listing the case shows significant wear along the edges. Skip this one a better example will come along.

Be patient.
