1964 Speedmaster crown stem sheered off

Hi, thank you for having me. I have a 1964 omega speedmaster and the crown stem sheered off? It was the original crown and stem. Do I have to buy a new crown and stem or can I just by the stem? Any help is appreciated….Beto

Broken stems can usually be removed from the crown. If it can’t be removed directly, a mixture of alum and water will dissolve the remnants of the stem without damaging the crown.

Much easier to work with if stem is not sheared off flush with crown.

Agree completely with Archer. Alum powder and water works great and heating the solution reduces the time it takes to dissolve the stem. We replace the crown oring when using the heated solution.

I'm pretty sure someone can tune in here with a recommendation. I'm in Vancouver, Canada and don't know enough about any repair shops around the San Jose area.

I have not used them but World Time gets good reviews here usually. They are right by Bascom and Stevens creek intersection.

I do plan to give them a try personally just haven’t yet.
