1964 Omega Constellation Pie Pan 167005 SGR, Serviced 551 Question

Hi All... I've been reading this forum for a month and all the experts here have me obsessing over the vintage Omegas... so much so, that I made an impulse buy for this Constellation that struck me as really beautiful. I'm hoping someone can advise me on its value. I already purchased it for $3,200, so if I way overpaid, I'll know better moving forward and hopefully know what to look for next time.

Here are all the stats I know of:
  • 42.5mm lug to lug by 34mm without crown.
  • No personal engravings
  • Original dial, bracelet, crystal & crown
  • Auto rotor is gold capped
  • Wrench marks on case back from previous owners
  • Seller claims it's in original condition, but I'm knowledgeable enough to know if this is true (trying to learn quickly)
If anyone has helpful thoughts on whether this watch was a reasonable purchase, I'd sure appreciate it. Thank you in advance and I look forward to learning more from this forum.

Looks legit to me, rotor is likely a replacement. The hands look a bit short at first glance, so you might want to compare that with other examples.

Hi,
as Dan S said the watch is legit, it has an original dial, case looks OK, crown is correct and the plexi is Omega signed.
You have this scratches on the back, the end links of the bracelet are not Omega ones.
It seems you already know you overpaid on this but we all overpaid on our first watches.
If you like ask here before buying the next watch!

Hello,

Welcome to the forum! I’ll have a go.

I think it’s a nice looking watch overall, although the price is pretty steep.

Dial looks original, with some lume. Case is worn but decently sharp. At first glance I thought the second hand looked slightly short but this might be the angle.

The bracelet has aftermarket end links, normally this reference takes 70. Bracelet with correct end links is around 200-250$ bought separately.

You can check the private sales here - there have been a few 168.005 and 167.005 sold recently. More around the 2k$ mark +/- a couple of hundreds depending on the condition and the dial configuration.

The watch looks great, quite a stunner. As per what people already said, it seems the rotor has indeed been replaced, though, as far as I can gather it is a genuine omega rotor, just not the one that would have been originally mounted on this watch.

As for the price issue, I do believe you did overpay a bit. As far as I’ve seen, a nice example may fetch 2000 usd, perhaps a bit more.

Overall, I’d say it’s a very nice example, and even though you did overpay a bit, it’s worth it if you do enjoy the watch. Wear it in good health.

Much of lucks!!
