I'm actually gob smacked at how intricate these things are considering I've never owned a watch until now, I know everyone in the forum is an expert or has great knowledge of these things but I'm a complete amateur

I think that's a really good idea..
You could even take a video operating the complications.
I think there's even a sapphire glass back that will fit it, but unless you want to study it on a regular basis then I'd leave that well alone..
You've got a really lovely watch, enjoy it!
