·Up for sale is a classic 1962 Rolex Datejust 1601 ref. While a common model, this is an uncommon variant w/ a non-luminous dial and attractive alpha hands that only came on these early Datejust models. The 36mm steel case has a white gold bezel and is in nice condition. The dial has developed an even patina that my photos do not do justice to.
Dial: Original, non-refinished silver dial is an uncommon non-luminous variant featuring alpha hands. The alpha hands, especially non a non-luminous model, add some serious character to an otherwise-unchanged model. The dial has light, fairly even patina that’s often present on these early ‘60s models. In my opinion, the patina is more subtle and attractive in person than my photos show.
Case: Original, unpolished (or close to it) 36mm 1601 ref. is in nice condition. Features a white gold bezel that’s also in nice condition. Case is correctly marked 1601 between the lugs and serial number dates the watch to 1962.
Crown: Original signed screw down crown.
Crystal: Crystal is free of scratches. Unsure if it’s the original as they weren’t signed in the era. There’s a small piece of debris stuck on the inside of the crystal (near the date window) that could be removed by a watchmaker.
Movement: The movement runs, winds, and sets well but I have no service history. I don’t have the right tool to open the caseback so no movement pictures are available.
Bracelet: Offered with or without the jubilee bracelet pictured. It has the period-correct old style clasp and 55 endlinks. It has some stretch and may have been refinished at some point.
Asking $3,250 head only or $3,750 with the jubilee. Includes US shipping and international shipping is available (cost to be discussed). Bank transfer/Wise (or similar) for payment. OF seller reviews are here. Returns are accepted if the watch is grossly misrepresented.
