Hello,

I am new to this forum. I recently found my grandfather's watch. As far as I can tell, it seems to be an early 1960s Omega Seamaster automatic calendar watch. Other than that, I know nothing. I am completely new to this. I think the watch is beautiful and I'd like to get it worked on by someone good. The top glass is scratched up, which is too bad. I am not sure if that can be addressed. It seems to run but I don't know how accurately. I am not sure it's ever been serviced. I just started wearing it, so I will know more soon.

If anyone knows what this is exactly or has any advice on who to go to to work on it, I would be grateful. I am in Brooklyn, NY but also go to Paris, France often. I could mail it to someone good as well. Pics are attached.

Cool watch! Replacing or polishing the crystal is trivial work for any watchmaker, so that can be addressed. Case itself looks to be in good shape, so I'd avoid anything of a polish there.

You'll definitely want a service of course, I don't know any near you (though "The Watch Hospital" in NYC is pretty famous on youtube/etc), as I've got a good watchmaker in Portland OR. Of course, @Archer here, but he's in Canada which is obviously troublesome.

Looks like could be 2849, likely with cal 503 movement- info will be revealed at service when they open case. Nice heirloom I would find an independent watchmaker with Omega parts account for service. Avoid sending to Omega as they will replace everything and ruin the vintage charm and value.

Hello fellow New Yorker, I usually take my watches to Tony’s watch repair in Chinatown, he has pretty reasonable rates and works on a lot of vintage watches

I ended up using Tony's Watch Repair based on @jffoo's recommendation above and I got my watch back today. As far as I can tell, he did a good job. Below are some pics.

Also, what do people like for bracelets for these and where can you get a nice one? The bracelet I have is OK, and not original, and I'm thinking I'll get another one now that the watch works.

Awesome, glad it worked out! I think a brown leather band looks better with gold watches compared to a metal bracelet. A black band can be more dressy, so depends on what situations you’re wearing it for.

I can see cal 503 movement, but cant read the inside caseback reference to confirm if its 2849 as suspected. It looks like it.
