Hello all,

I was given this 14k Gold Tavannes quite a few years ago by my grandmother who told me it was the watch of my great grandfather. This was before I was really into watches and I put it in the back of my safe and sort of forgot about it, well today I was looking in there and rediscovered it.

Does anyone know what model it is ? What year it's made ?
It has a 14k solid gold case
It has a 4934 serial number

I'm attaching a few pictures I took of it.

It seems to be a very special watch, the dial is in great condition and it's running and winding smoothly.

4934 is the case number. The serial numver is on the movement.

Can't help you more than that, but thatis a really nice watch.

Never mind the watch, that's a LOVELY Model M keyboard 🥰. Great patina, too! Clearly no safe queen.

Haha thanks, it's been the only keyboard I use for about the last 5 years, really great piece of equipment 😀

Mine's going on 35. Agreed!
I've tried modern "buckled spring" keyboards, which are supposed to replicate the old IBM technology, not even remotely close.

Nice watch OP 👍

I like the strap as well - I swapped my gold Cyma onto a black strap but that burgundy looks great.

Let's get back on topic 😀

You are welcome to post your Cyma, would be nice to see it!

Now regarding my Tavannes here, do you have any idea how much it could be worth ? I really know nothing about this brand.

Just to be clear though I have no inclination towards selling it as it's an heirloom, just asking out of curiosity 📖

I should add that yours is quite lovely, and has a great family history. For that, it is priceless. I am not sure what they sell for. I have seen some on ebay with ridiculous asking prices.

I think I will even have mine serviced so I can wear it now, you are right it is priceless to me and I won't ever neglect it again!

It really is, that is a very nice watch!

Kind of off-topic again but, I think we should have more discussion on these 1920s,1930s,1940s pieces, I have recently gotten really into them and I think it's a very underrated era for collectors compared to say the 1960s

There are so many more 60s watches floating around than there are earlier ones. However, there are a few threads that come to mind. For example

Not sure if you know this but Cyma and Tavannes are the same company. Sometimes you see two examples of the same watch and model one with Cyma and the other with Tavannes on the dial.

You see a lot more of these dress watches on the https://vintagewatchforums.com/, and I’d love to see more here too.

I figured as much, were they on the same level or is it like say Rolex and Tudor?

There is a distinction in quality between Rolex and Tudor that doesn't exist with Tavannes and Cyma (as far as I know). I am not sure if this means anything to you but they are more like Johnson and Evinrude, or GMC and Chevy.
