Hi,

although the quality of the photo is poor (taken from the www), and the crystal is shouting "change me!!"
What is your opinion on this dial (originally blue … Cal1040 spec G1 Blue Wedge):
- well aged / nice patina (or even tropical)?
- or destroyed?

Personally, I do like the "albino style" you can observe at some Fligthmaster dials, hope this one will Show a similar appearance. All the lume dots seem to be around, as well as paint at Indices, and the hands do look ok (not faded).

Will post better photos once I hold it in my hands.

While it will undoubtedly look better with a new crystal, for me, this dial is too far gone. I think the blue dial on these SS versions really pop

but as long as you like it

My cousin says hi

I like it if most of what I see is crystal damage. Which I think it is.

The fancy blue dial is what makes these watches special for me. Though it looks all ok (except for the crystal) with this watch, it doesnt appeal my eye :/

Yes, I definitely love the original blue sunburst dial - but as a blue one is around in my 007 already, i thought this might be a good alternative

All that matters is that you like it, because it's your money. I call that "damaged, replace" but that's me.

Price-wise, I fully agree - for such dials, would always factor in "calculate the time & money you need to get a proper replacement and substract from the value" … than keep searching for a proper replacement, and put it in stock once it is there …. and wear the vintage one with pride 😀

Well, here we go … fished yesterday morning, already arrived today … better photos.

Was advertised as "not running at all", but did came with a bunch of spares. And NO, I did not see a movement pic before it arrived today.
Maybe the (obviously unexperienced) seller didnt notice the small second moving as it should … date change works, chrono hands move in snyc with the main time when adjusting time (thats why I do love the 1040 …).
Only, the chrono reset button is blocked for some reason ...

Case is way better then expected. Full length 1162 + 173 original bracelet.
Crystal is dead, hands are 100%, and the dial is what it is … "destroyed" i would call it now, but cool 😀

So, will get it working and the crystal changed, and then wear at some special occasions, foggy autumntimes or so … and in parallel keep looking for some nice dial and bezel to put in stock.

I personally don't mind the aged leather look and at least it is even, but as others have stated, your opinion is the one that matters.

I think the dial looks quite cool. That said, as we know, dial damage can warn of movement damage, and with a brief look at this movement, I’m hoping that the wallet damage won’t be too painful.

Finally, I was able to pick up the watch from my watchmaker. Only the mechanism for setting the chrono lever needed to be put back into correct Position - luckily no rust in movement. And I had the crystal changed.
Apart from this, expecting it to be on the wrist a few times per year only, movement was running still OKish, and full revision can wait.

… and yes, lume dots are most likely not original - but I decided to leave as is … part of the watch history.
However, If the the dial was perfect, I would have them replaced
