168.005 Gold Cap Constellation - Worth 3,300 EUR?

Gents,

I'd like to think that I am getting more skilled each day to find vintage Omegas. But estimating price is tough. I have been offered this full set gold cap constellation. All looks to be original, even the crown, and doesn't seem to be refinished or polished in any way.

I have been offered to buy it for 3,300 EUR. Would you consider it worth the asking price?

Others may differ, but it would not interest me at that price.

I absolutely love the watch but like the member above said...not at that price.

The lugs have seen some work (especially top right), it’s far from perfect. Price is x2 what is should be.

It was my gut feeling as well that it is priced a bit high.

I have seen nice (but sold) samples online priced around 1,800 EUR, but that is not with a BOR strap and doesn't come as a full set. Then again, I have also seen a sample on Omega Enthusiast priced slightly higher, not as a full set and not with a BOR strap. I was thinking that a reasonable price would be somewhere in between, but I hear your point.

Anyone else concerned about the inconsistencies in the minute markers?

FIFY

it’s a nice watch and equally nice to have a full set - but that is a batshit crazy price.

nice dial

most likely refraction or scratches in the crystal making the minute haches look inconsistent.

I agree, but I would gladly pay up to $2000 for it and still think I did alright. A little tweaking to the lugs by a talented Manhattan goldsmith and that thing would be a solid keeper and investment with that complete set.

Seller is down to 2800 EUR.

Seller is down to 2800 EUR. Finding a similar watch in the US, I would have to pay 30% import taxes. So might not be that bad...

The watch itself would fetch between EUR 1000 up to EUR 1500 as a private seller and you would have a good deal. A connie box you can buy for EUR 150. Does a full set sets a premium of EUR 1150+? Not in my book. And by the way, you can not wear a full set around the wrist. So EUR 2800 is insane IMHO.

When I started out I wanted all these original boxes to go with my watches. Now they are seeking dust in a dark closet...

I haven’t yet seen this for 1000-1500 EUR with BOR strap. Would you be able to share links? Also, wouldn’t you add it any value that this is a full set, where serials match 100%?

I don’t think @Shabbaz is suggesting that he has a line on one at that price right now.
When he talks price, he’s referring to watching the market over quite an extended period and being patient for fairly priced watches to show up.

I personally still like boxes and ‘full sets’ but they only add interest and a warm feeling for me as a collector and not a huge amount of value.
(And if the serials don’t match then they’re just bits of paper a seller has added to con potential buyers)

The watch is nice but it is gold cap (the least desirable option for Connies, value -wise) and has slightly softened lugs on the crown side through wear (not sure how @janice&fred would have gold cap lugs fettled)
The pie pan dial is nice
The BOR is a bonus as are the box and papers.

Breaking it down as @Shabbaz did.
Say 1,200 for the watch head
150 for the BOR
150 (max) for box and papers.
1,500 total.

3,300 is ‘Burlington Arcade’ prices, where bankers (both factual and a euphemism) who have more money than sense splash their cash.

Patience will hopefully allow you to buy two Connies for this kind of money.

This summs it all up!

Totally agree with the above, for me, for that watch with a price card of €3300, there's an €1800 premium for the B&P- which is of course totally ridiculous

Something I noticed but forgot to mention (@harrymai86 jogged my memory in another thread)
Isn’t 26,73xxxx way too high for an onyx insert dogleg dial?

I think I’d like to see the insides of the watch and those papers in more detail.

I don't buy into the 'no serial numbers higher than…" when talking onyx inserts. This is now the fourth gold cap 168.005 I've seen with a 26.xxx.xxx serial number with the same type of dial (same marker type) with onyx inserts. Nothing in the three other specimens I've observed have suggested foul play.

Btw, €3,300 is a complete joke.
