165014-62 Dial

Looking for comments on this piece. I am not considering to buy it just to learn new thing about this nice and quite rare transitional reference.

This piece is offered on auction.

165014-62 serial 19mil with Radium dial. Looks pretty good at a quick glance (at least to my untrained eye)


On closer inspection the dial seems to have been worked on, isn't it? The numbers have lost their sharpness and their seriffs. The lume also looks a bit spotty, admittedly I have seen only few radium dials but the once I have seen were even dark color aged.

To the auctioneers defense they dont state anything about the originality of the dial.
The bezel though seems to be original bakelite, doesn't it? They dont provide macro which apparently would be the only proper way to identify a real bezel.

P.s. current bid is at 9500GBP (reserve not met yet) estimate 10-11k GBP

Shouldn't a 62 Iteration have a different Dial&Handset? @Dash1 ?

..and I can't see if it's a no T Dial which it should be on a 62 I assume. They say Radium though.

I was looking at this also earlier, awaiting more panel judges to chime in. If this where radium, just imagine the amount of it on this watch! Would burn a hole in your wrist...

Aaaand here is the answer from the auction house.

“Yes, we can confirm this is an original Radium Dial. Sadly, we are not able to perform a geiger test on this watch. We can only open the case of the watch when it's being serviced and keep the watch assembled at all other stages to ensure that we do not risk any damage on the dial or to the movement of the watch. We suspect the geiger reading would be minimal.

Please be assured that the watch is coming from a vendor that holds an Omega accreditation and that all of their vintage items go to vintage specialists for examination and authentication.“

Well, when the same seller wants 80.000€ for two “Military” SM300’s (that have also been discussed on OF earlier last week), then i would be a bit suspect and want some real proof...

I probably made a mistake on my previous post, i didn’t state that the company wants 80.000€ EACH of the SM300’s. 🤦 🥱
