Hi everyone,

Hope you can help a (vintage) Speedmaster newbie out here...

Been looking for a nice 145.022-68 or 69 Pre-Moon for a while and now stumbled across this one here...
It was sold originally by shucktheoyster.com and the buyer sourced an extract from the archives as an extra goodie.

The watch looks legit to me, i.e. bezel is period correct, dial & hands as well as movement appear to be in good shape. Is there anything obvious I've missed?

Thanks!!!

This looks yummy! I’m also looking for a nice example myself. Just such a beautiful design.

Sorry I can’t be of any help though, I’ll leave it to the experts.

All the best,
Chris

Everything looks kosher.

Also, shucktheoyster.com is great seller. Have a few pieces from him.

Looks like a nice piece. Hopefully all those imperfections are just on the glass and not on the dial

After checking shucktheoysters inventory (I wanted to know the asking price) I'm a bit confused:

This one is listed as "sold", price was 5650€

EDIT: Sorry, just saw you already mentioned it was sold...

Is it for sale gain and you want to buy it?

Could be confused on the facts or perhaps transition from DON->DNN remains fuzzy but wondering if DNN bezel is correct.

In researching my Sept '70 145.022-69 pre-moon w/ serial 30593461, I found the following:

https://omegaforums.net/threads/don-bezel-informations-69-and-69st.86581/
DON bezel "Until 30,596,xxx according to the latest version of MWO (page 123)."

With a serial number on the OP watch of #30596910 (just over a few thousand later than mine) and given Moon Watch Only reference, shouldn't this watch have originally had a DON bezel?

Looks like shuck the oyster photos. Bound to be plenty pricy, so definitely doublecheck whether the bezel is right for that serial. I don’t have MWO in front of me.

Would have loved to see it with the "220" misprint.

Yes it's for sale again and the seller actually lives in the neighbourhood

Thanks for posting this... In my copy of MWO (MK1) it was stated that up to 30.594.xxx it should come with a DON bezel so I assumed this one was correct

A bit too rich if you ask me. An avg DON will cost you $2-3K which you’ll have to add to the purchase price. At that price point you’re in 321 territory.

Be patient, this is a common reference, many come up for sale on this forum from good sellers.

Bezel is plausibly correct, and the watch looks to be in good overall condition. It's definitely not a $6,200 USD watch for me personally without a bracelet, but you said that it's a local seller, so maybe that is worth something to you. Just remember, if you can't make a deal with the seller, this is the most common reference, and they come up all the time.

same as the original sales price (Incl. extract though)
You can understand ShucktheOyster charging high as it's a business so, you probably have some comeback but, if you bought a watch from them and then decided to sell you'd expect to lose 20-25% (?) as a private seller. That would be my feeling anyway.

@Dan S makes a good point that it's not a $6200 watch. Not as a private sale, for me.

Good luck, Chris
