There is an age old Navy tradition that if you put on an officer's hat, he must kiss you. @Mad Dog will back me up on that. 馃槑馃グ

HOWEVER, if your bias is to wear your watches first and foremost as opposed to pure collecting, get a 5513. It's the definitive timeless and handsomest watch there is that can be worn in any circumstance. Some will argue that you can do the same with the Speedmaster but those people don't like to get wet! ::rimshot::

I respectfully disagree. There is no one watch that can be worn in any circumstance. A tool watch is not a dress watch, even a tool watch that's small by current standards.
My suggestion to the OP is to pick whichever appeals as a watch for casual to semiformal occasions. Look at them both on your wrist and decide.

I disagree with you..
Buy a $7-10k watch, and it can't be worn in any circumstance... LOL..
I'll borrow the pic from @ulackfocus..

I'm not a formal kinda guy...The 5513 gets the nod by virtue of being shower resistant...馃槤

What is nice about the Sub over the Speedy too is the ease of service and parts. Cost of ownership is much less in regards to servicing.

To @TTG point, a 5513 will not be a beater, but you can wear one everyday if you like, and not really worry about it. Just be cognizant of it.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry ... I'm currently looking for a 145.022 or 5513 right now. I've put feelers out everywhere I know over the last few weeks. If you find a good one you don't want, let me know ... and I'll reciprocate. 馃槈

A 5513 and a 69 Speedy are a dynamic duo...hard to beat in my book.

While I love the long indices and applied logo, the 321 service is a real bear at times.

Keep up the search, as it better to wait anfor spend more on a great example than to rush and get a mediocre one.

Tell me about it. The search is scary too ... I've just been looking at a 145.022 on Chrono24 that has a 321 movement in it ... but on a better note, I'm waiting for an email with photos from a Canadian dealer who look like he's got a really honest one.

You want a 145.012....that has the 321.

Chrono24...better to search on watchrecon, here, and ebay...Chrono24 is a crapshoot.

If money were no object I wouldn't hesitate to go for a 145.012 ... but I'm playing with the thought of both a 5513 and 145.022. The 321 is a great thing to own but I have no real issue with getting an 861 instead (that might be close to heresy on here?).

551x is a versatile watch, can be worn with short sleeve or formal suit. I wear mine in business environment all the time.

Inhad both a speedy and a 4 line 5512 and eventually flipped the speedy and bought a 14060m so i can wear it on roigher environments. It just feels roght to me.

I do think the speedy is a perfect watch as well and maybe ill get another one when pne sings to me, so my decission was not made "against" the speedy but for the sub if you see what i mean
