looks nice. a rare 1968 transitional 321 to 861 speedy. condition of the watch is still good and seemed untouched with nearly tropical dial.

The Transitional model is widely accepted to be the first 861 Speedmaster, model number 145.022-68. This is not that, it is the previous 321 model and the last of the 321s.

transitional also refers to the last series of 321, not just the beginning 861. hence, valuewise, the 321-145.012 is the best transition speedy than 861.

While all sorts of things can be described as transitional, in Speedyland if you describe a watch as a “Transitional” and produce anything other than something like @kov ‘s lovely 145.022-68 with AML and low serial, people will wonder what you are talking about.

Using MWO as a reference, the 145.012-68 is not considered transitional. It is simply a new sub reference after the 145.012-67.
The 145.022-68 is transitional as it has a new movement but the retains the raised logo dial. The 145.022-69 marked the end of the raised logo on the dial.

No matter a rare reference, someone overpaid a shitty watch. IMO

Thanks all for your replies. Good to see we are reaching somewhat similar conclusions on this one.

I hope this thread will be educational to others as it has been to me so far.

Now, curious to see whether we will see this watch resurface wearing a ring (bezel) and with some make-up on...

This will either be a rare ugly watch or a rare relumed unoriginal watch. Neither my cup of speedy.
