That is amazing! I was hesitant to send it to Longines. At this time I have no immediate reason to sell it. I plan to do more research and appreciate what it is.

I’ve been wearing it Not Working! Just because it’s so nice to look at. I will likely stop that practice for a bit.

congrats a very nice find! My suggestion get it back to working condition and enjoy. Here another example that was recently offered but stayed unsold:

Wow, sounds quite disheartening- but may I ask how long ago that was?
I believe they run a much tighter ship now, and my gut tells me you’re talking about a different era.

In the current Brand Heritage department, the historians who are in constant touch with collectors also serve as a conduit to the vintage watchmakers and liaise with the customer service people. The department had 2 historians 8 years ago has now 7 more people or so.
They, as well as the chief vintage watchmakers have regular interactions with the collectors whose watches are being restored, and from those daily contacts they are keenly aware (and I would think) respectful of things collectors care about.
I took a watch there for a certificate of authenticity and they agreed to have someone carry it back by hand at the first opportunity.

It’s a highly individualized service and frankly for a watch that’s now worth up to 100K, a 3000 euro service seems totally worth it— and I would not let anyone touch it except Longines’ vintage watchmakers.

In short, I agree this watch needs to go to Saint-Imier for service. Just do what others have done: fly there to take it by hand, travel around, and do the same one year later.

Kind of amazing it was unsold? Why do you think that is?

Maybe the reserve was too high given the condition.

I was sort of shocked as well. But the general rule of thumb is that the low estimate is the reserve (including premium so 32k hammer and 40k total in this case). But many times that is not true and a higher reserve is in place and if not met it just goes unsold. I suspect the 40k all in low estimate was not the reserve and it was higher, but again this is speculation purely

I have several of them and have been wearing one most days for the last 6 months. I even play golf and work in my workshop with it. Watches are meant to be used!!!!

Since you have 10 years of experience owning chronographs one would have thought you would have seen a number of examples that have damaged outer tracts... especially on none waterproof models. I suspect the moisture tracks to the outside of the plexi and then damages the outer dial.
