I guess I remembered incorrect decade. It was actually 1980 when people melted everything from silver forks and spoons to gold pocket watches. I remember tragically how many 1920s style ladies cocktail diamond dress watches were been melted daily.
The event has a name, Silver Thursday caued by the Hunt Brothers.

So I believe steel Longines with exception on certain models, gold chronographs were majority produced.

Question regarding variation on the 13ZN mark.

Has anyone seen movements marked 13NZ rather than 13ZN?

I have seen a few while reviewing movements online, the one I have is also marked this way.
The man servicing my watch says that it does not in fact flyback, rather it operates with 3 pushes.
Odd thing is, mine was sent to Longines in Switzerland for review and they told me it was a 13ZN and confirmed it by their archives.

Where's the rub?

Hi all,
ohartmanno and me just had a reasonable and friendly conversation (by phone) and stated, that we both had made a few mistakes while discussing our positions. After this call I´d like to declare, that I´m able to develop sympathy for ohartmanno´s position now, because I posted statements which had been not correct nor adequate.
Especially my use of ironical phraseology was not suitable to lead a respectful dialogue; particularly as we both aren´t native english speakers.
So I will erase the questionable contributions in this thread to finish a dispute that was more and more destructive and impolite.
Furthermore ohartmanno told me, that he´s currently not able to respond/post in this forum, because he´s blocked. So I´d ask to unblock ohartmanno and give him the oportunity to post his contributions hereafter.
I appreciate that ohartmanno has called me on the phone to end this affair in a peaceful and deferent way as well as he has admitted having reacted rather strong - a positive move to a fair and satisfying solution.

I am very happy that this was resolved amicably. I have removed all my posts. To the extent that what I posted remains I would urge yako54 and ohartmanno to do the same to those parts of my postings that remain inside their posts.

Buyers beware, there is no mention of the dial in this listing but it has clearly been refinished.

Edit: The links I tried did not work. The item number is 302652605037 and I can only view the listing on https://www.ebay.de/

Same seller has a 30CH “Skin Diver” with incorrect hands and says it’s “all original” - maybe best to just stay clear of this seller and anything he says (or fails to say) in his listings.

Also: that same watch was sold previously by European Watch Company. It comes right up in searches for 30CH 7981. Same scratched up subdials, same hands.

To avoid any confusion this is the watch being discussed with a "refinished" dial. The seller has not disclosed this in the listing. Here's a direct link to the listing on ebay

There's also some language in small type at the bottom of the listing that would make think twice before bidding with this seller... "Conditions of Sale: No guarantees no returns..."

And here's a photo of the watch in question:

I’m pretty sure that’s not a 13ZN-12 movement
...I´m sure:
There´s a non-flyback-nose mounted on the reset hammer and no minute counter.

And only 55k!

It was $100k so at $55k you’re getting a “stainless steal” according to the auction title!

Wait, that’s not the same movement as the one in the listing, is it?

Correct. Minutenrohr showed a real 13ZN-12 for comparison. When you see that large round toothed disc under the bridge and the coupling on top of it you’re looking at a movement with a center minute counter.

...this is a 13ZN12 case (ref. 23086) and a 13ZN (flyback-) movement which belongs to another case - a "mariage".

hour and minute hand wrong. small second maybe correct, as well as the second/minute counter hands. dial looks good to me, except the uncut "4" and "8" - the distance between "4", "8" and the counters seem way too long to me.. better pics would be helpful. the printing is maybe not as exact as usual; not sure if that´s caused by the pic.

looking on the dial this way, the left counter seems not centered...

Here's one for the panel. Be interested to see what people can tell me/think about it with regards to movement etc. I know that it's from 1946 and a 13zn flyback in 18kt Gold case but that's about it. I'd also be interested in a rough idea on value (or is that a too grubby question??) - thanks
