Any Ideas about the painted markers? Looks like the paint flow into the step.

In Germany we would call something like that "Montagsmodell" (lemon" 😁

You are right.

But don´t forget that Speedmasters were tool-watches...

Who else, besides me, started their chronograph today after a long time to check on their AMLs?

Thanks for all the replies guys!

I checked MWO again yesterday evening, and concerning the underlying paint of the markers found those two pictures in it:
@JimJupiter the paint flow as you call it, on our „montagsdial“ 😉.

One from a professional and one from a pre professional dial (I hope it’s ok to post the pictures here)

Clearly visible is the extra „paint“ under the lume right where the hour marker hits the step.

Cheers,

Max

I think that here the tritium flaked off, partially.

I've just noticed a not dissimilar (though maybe not quite as pronounced) AML on my -68 (crappy phone pic in artificial light):

from wrist shot in sunlight

Compared to -64:

Sniffing around online, it seems that Professional dials do show up with the same kind of appearance - slightly pinched looking, meaning the feet aren't quite level. I've not seen photos of a pre-Professional dial with the same behaviour, though - is it possible the original dial here was an early service item, maybe produced in the late 1960s?

I can see the same paint run off at the step in these photo’s.. but what do i know?😀

There are not any service dials pre 1968. For the same reason there are no 861 service dials. The current production dial would have been used.

If it transpires that it’s a rare pinched foot AML made for two weeks only, does the price swing back up again?! 😁
And the buyer will get a kick every time he notices it.

Looks legit to me, kudos @OMEGuy for the manner in which he’s dealt with this.

Edit: my mistake, I meant the OP.

And the buyer will get a kick every time he notices it instead of it being irritating...

.

Just for clarification the parties involved are @JimJupiter and me. I appreciate @OMEGuy feedbak though 😉 !

Cheers,

😜 That’s true and I appreciate the feedback of every single one of them on here .

43k wow... last Time I checked we were kicking around 25k, way to go OF. No wonder, it‘s by far the best watch forum in the www.

I have no expertise to offer only a viewpoint of an admirer, this is one of the nicest and cleanest dials I have seen so far with or w/o the slight imperfections.

And this is the reason why I will keep it. For me it’s clear that the logo wasn’t glued on or something. Since we have seen other dials with “crazy” feet’s, let’s say it’s manufactural tolerance .

Thanks to Max for discussing this so open and for the other 43k for their knowledge and opinions!

Good decision.

Remember, not everything falls in the category of 'Deutsche ware, beste ware' ;-)

Enjoy your acquisition.

To bring this story to a great end, the dial found a good home in a 105.003 -63.

My eyes, my eyes! Those clamped feet!

😜

😁 I have to admit, I don't see it anymore. I thought it would bother me,...but it doesn't!
