105.003-65 question

1st, I'm a watchmaker not a collector. I am authorized by Omega and other brands to repair their watches. A elderly (74) customer recently turned down an estimate to fix his vintage speedmaster. He offered to sell it to me and I accepted his offer. I received an extract from the archives, listing it as produced in September of 1966. I have serviced it and looking for more info before I sell it, I know collectors forums are the best place to get this information. The serial number is 24002817. Please look over the pictures and let me know your thoughts.
Thanks in advance,
Scott

Hi, not easy to understand the informations you are looking for, 🤔, especially with these 2 pics...
If the extract says it is a 105.003, what do you expect?
(We can just say that the serial range fits with a -65)
Maybe more pics, for more comments?...

What information are you seeking? It’s generally not a good idea to try to circumvent the restrictions on new members selling via the forum (e.g. by soliciting, wink-wink, private messages) as that can get you banned.

Not much to go on. Based on your pics, what happened here and here?

Are you asking if a ‘-65’ can have a production date of 1966? If so, yes, few/no -65’s were made in 1965

Sorry, watchmakers are not to computer literate.... I was unable to post more photos. I do have them posted on Instagram. If you look for certifiedswisswatchmaker I have more posted there.

This forum serves as a discussion community for collectors and others, and these threads become useful repositories of knowledge and discussion. As such, it is generally expected that all photos and information be included directly in the thread so that the thread itself serves as a useful ongoing part of the archive. You will see that this is always requested of members, if they attempt to post links to other platforms instead of uploading photos directly.

So if you would like to benefit from the unparalleled knowledge about vintage Speedmasters on this forum, I would suggest that you make an effort to abide by the generally accepted forum standards. To discuss your watch, it will be necessary to have comprehensive photos of dial, case, etc. It's extremely easy to do compared to other forums, and apparently you already figured out how to do it. More information from the extract (or a photo) would also be useful. The more you give, the more you will receive.

Edit: That said, I had a look at the IG account, and the watch has some major issues. So don't get too excited, OF scavengers. On the bright side, there is a cat photo, so the OP may actually have some potential as an OF contributor. 👍

The main issue is the dial is incorrect. This will significantly impact value.

In the current market I’d estimate it’s worth somewhere around $4.5k.

No pics? No details? Not literate with a computer? And you're repairing watches? Sorry, but to be honest, this sounds like a straight hustle.

Hi, someone was ever so kind to put more photos up. Not literate enough to figure out how to post multiple pictures. I am literate with other aspects like email and office items. I will say repairing watches has nothing to do with computers unless you're using a cad/cam program (I do not know how to use them though). If there are more details I can provide, please list them and I will. I can do the hustle (1978-1982) flat out on the disco floor, but am not sure of a straight hustle...

Wrong dial is an issue for sure. It’s a later one and definitely worth much less. Lume on the hands is missed, bezel is quite fatigue one. Some will say ghost bezel but I dont find it attractive one. Hipocampus almost lost. Also looks heavily polished. And the movement saw some inexperienced hands. I saw here at forum few great watches for sale which can not find a new owner quickly at the current market. This one is a tough one. But as some says everything is a matter of a right price.

As noted, the dial is wrong, and obviously the hands and bezel are in poor condition. Can't really judge the case from those photos, but the back is quite worn. Overall, it's not a great example unfortunately, from a collector's perspective. Let us know if you have any specific questions.
