Looks like a winner to me. Nice watch.

Edit: Sorry I missed the value part in your question. For myself it's hard to say but original examples in nice shape are getting harder to find. I like the watch.

Price is OK.

It dates to 1955-1958, and it’s a 2846/2848 reference. This is a 2846 (center seconds), while 2848 has sub-seconds but uses the same case.

Thanks very much.. I'll have a haggle and see if he will drop the price.
My concern is the gold, I haven't much experience with goldcap. Cant see if its in good condition.
By the way, can a gold watch like this be polished? Or it will rub away to the metal underneath..

I think there's two types of gold plating, thin and thick. The thin one you can polish -- but don't. It's always worth more in unpolished condition. Unless you're going to keep and wear it, then do whatever makes it work for you.

The gold cap is fairly thick but don't expect to remove dings. It will shine up nicely tho and I would suggest a Blitz polishing cloth.

As I don't know what the watch case should look like, can you give me your opinion on the polish and the dial (if the pictures are clear enough)..

Big difference between gold plated (typically 20 microns) and gold capped (much thicker). I would not buy a gold plated watch, but gold capped is fine.

The dial is to die for and the case will polish up very well. There is no big damage and only the usual marks which will blend in nicely with a polish, and the crown has wear thru to the gold but so what? It's vintage 😁

I'm going to beg you not to polish it.

The seller writes gold capped but does he know that he's talking about

Thank you all for your help. Certainly not taken for granted. Not everyone are so pleased to help.

I don't polish. Wouldn't know how without completely destroying it.

Blitz polishing rag is what I suggested. Far from suggesting a wheel and compound!

It’s gold capped over stainless steel. If it was gold plated, the inside of the case back would normally say 20 microns.

The crown need replacing but the dial is very nice. The price is OK assuming it doesn't need a service, which it probably does, even though the movement is clean as they always do. If it need servicing then I would say it is expensive, it is not a $1K watch after all, which it what it will have cost after servicing and a new crow, but at $700 serviced it would be fair even with the crown. This watch is familiar, I wouldn't be surprised if we haven't discussed this already in the past month or so.
